What makes Ling dangerous?
Ling can threaten both a side lane and your back line because walls shorten his routes. The answer starts before he dives: know which angle is unguarded, then make the landing harder to convert into repeated attacks.
Strengths to respect
- Finch Poise gives him wall-based rotations and flanks.
- Basic attacks and Defiant Sword threaten vulnerable carries.
- Tempest of Blades gives him a powerful commitment window.
Openings to exploit
- He still needs a useful landing near a target.
- A protected back line can make his access much riskier.
- Layered control is more useful than spending everything during an evasive cast.
How to counter Ling during a match
While rotating
Look at the walls beside your route as well as the lane ahead. Walk with a protector when Ling is missing; a shorter route is not always a safer one.
Preparing an objective
Assign someone to watch the flank while the damage dealers keep a retreat line. Avoid standing so far from your control hero that Ling can isolate the back line.
During his ultimate
Keep moving out of the danger area and hold targeted skills until he can be hit. Contest the landing space without walking into it purely to deny a sword.
Defensive items: buy for the actual threat
Blade Armor
A tank option when his basic attacks are a major physical threat; still account for the rest of the enemy draft.
Check the enemy build first. Reflection is not a substitute for reaching or controlling the attacker.
