Kalea MLBB Guide: The Suplex Delivery Service (Season 42)
She grabs your carry, suplexes her into her own team, then heals the teammate you almost killed. Kalea got buffed twice in a month — here's the honest Season 42 read.
Why she's feared (and loved)
Picture the enemy marksman doing everything right. She's behind her tank, her dash is up, she's farming the wave at perfect range. Then a serpent tail slides over the front line, wraps around her waist, and the next thing she sees is the inside of my team — stunned, airborne, and dead before her feet touch the ground. That is Kalea, the Surging Wave. She's a Support/Fighter, a pairing only she and Kaja hold in the entire game, and her whole existence is one question: who do I get to suplex next? Moonton's own ratings say it plainly — Control 9 out of 10, Offense 3. She is not here to kill you. She's here to deliver you.
And yet she's loved for the opposite reason. Between suplexes she body-slams divers off her carry, fights on a healing puddle she carries with her, and tops up the teammate who's about to die. She's a roamer with a fighter's body and a nurse's side hustle — and after two buffs in a month, the delivery service is suddenly everybody's problem.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Moonton's 2.2.16 designer note admitted her damage and survivability had both fallen short and called her one of the weakest supports in the game — then gave her what they labelled a comprehensive buff. Per Fandom's Patch Notes 2.2.16, read directly: Wavebreaker's base damage goes 200–350 → 200–450 and its cooldown 4s → 3.5s; Tsunami Slam's damage bonus moves off her Physical Attack (80%) and onto 8% of her Max HP; and Surge of Life's heal is rescaled to 12% of her Max HP (+80% Total Magic Power), with the third enhanced basic now firing even while she's crowd-controlled. Blooing's 2.2.16 roundup confirms the same four moves in one line. Then, on 14 October, 2.2.16a buffed her AGAIN: Kazuki Official's walkthrough of the official note and MLBBHub's tier-list notes both confirm a further buff to her passive and her ultimate, and a same-day patch-note republication names her the update's only buffed hero. The exact 2.2.16a numbers, though, rest on that single video walkthrough with no second text source — any specific figure quoted for it is [UNCONFIRMED] until Fandom catches up. One more flag: Fandom's hero page still prints the pre-buff Wavebreaker cooldown and the ult's old Physical Attack scaling, and its Wavebreaker table (180–280) doesn't even match the patch note's old range — where the pages fight, the patch note governs. (Brawl players: her mode numbers rose too — damage +14% → +18%, damage taken −8% → −12%; mode footnote only.)
- MLBBHub (Season 42 tier list, updated 21 October 2026): 48.9% all-ranks win rate and the #1 rising hero on the tracker, +2.7% since the buffs landed; her hero page shows a 0.29% pick rate — tiny, specialist numbers.
- MLBBDex (updated 19 October 2026, patch 2.2.16): B tier, 49.3% win rate, 0.8% ban rate.
- MLBB.io (data updated 20 October 2026): C tier — note the arrow, she just climbed out of D — with a 49.4% win rate and 0.4% pick rate.
- Pocket Gamer (tier list, 17 October 2026): S tier on its supports-only list — the outlier desk that loves her most.
- MLCounter.com (stale — last updated July 2026): prints a 45.32% win rate beside an S badge, a pair that makes no sense together; I use it for matchup direction only.
- My tier verdict: B+.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2,500 growing to 5,650, Physical Attack 126→255, Physical Defense 18→81, Magic Defense 15→50, Attack Speed 1.14→1.42, Movement Speed 260 — and no mana at all. Moonton's ratings: Offense 3, Durability 6, Control Effects 9, Difficulty 4.
- Passive — Surge of Life: Every skill cast drops a Water Zone where she stands — it lasts 6 seconds, grants vision around her, and only one exists at a time. Cast another skill while standing inside it and she absorbs the zone, supercharging her next three Basic Attacks (a 12-second buff that attack speed does nothing for). The first dash-strikes to the target — range stretching to 3.2 units — for (+100% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage with a slight knockback. The second is a ~1.2-second flurry for 300 (+100% Total Physical Attack) that also heals her and the nearby lowest-HP ally — and since 2.2.16 that heal scales off 12% of her Max HP (+80% Total Magic Power), so her tank items are secretly heal items; the hero page still prints the old heal line, patch note governs. The third is a tail strike for 100 (+100% Total Physical Attack) that plants a fresh Water Zone where it lands — and since 2.2.16 it fires even if she's stunned mid-sequence. Zone, absorb, dash, heal, re-zone: that loop is the hero.
- Skill 1 — Wavebreaker: She punches the ground and a wave rolls out — Fandom's level table prints 180–280 base damage (+5% of her Total HP), slowing everything touched by 40% for 1.5 seconds. Learned first, maxed first: it's her zone-maker, her wave clear and her cheapest engage tool, and the buffed 3.5-second cooldown (per the patch note; the hero page still shows 4.0s) makes it her heartbeat.
- Skill 2 — Tidal Strike: A charge and a body slam: the first enemy hero she hits takes 150–275 (+60% Total Physical Attack) and goes airborne for 0.6 seconds, on a 13→11-second cooldown. The fun part — if the charge clips a wall, an obstacle or the edge of her own Water Zone, she leaps up and perches for about 2 seconds; recast and she slams down at a chosen spot for the same damage and another 0.6-second airborne. Get stunned while perched and the whole effect is wasted, so perch with a plan.
- Ultimate — Tsunami Slam: The suplex. Her tail grabs one enemy hero — a stun as the grab lands, then continuous airborne while she drags them — and slams them down in whatever direction her joystick is pointing, up to 7.5 units away: 300/400/500 base damage to the victim and everyone nearby, on a 55/50/45-second cooldown. She is crowd-control immune for the entire grab, a Water Zone blooms where the victim lands, and 2.2.16 moved the damage scaling to 8% of her Max HP (the hero page still prints the old +80% Physical Attack line). It only grabs heroes, it whiffs completely on air, and she can't cast anything else mid-slam.
- Skill priority, my way: Wavebreaker at level 1 — no zone, no passive, no hero — and max it first for the buffed damage and cooldown; Tsunami Slam at 4, 8 and 12; Tidal Strike last, because its airborne never grows and its cooldown does the improving on its own.
Combos
- The Delivery: Wavebreaker to lay the zone, Tidal Strike through the zone's edge for the perch slam, then Tsunami Slam the priority carry back toward your team. The double airborne stacks the window so your finisher arrives before the victim's dash does.
- Flicker Suplex: Flicker laterally or behind the carry first, then slam toward your team — or your turret. The reposition buys the one beat of confusion in which escape buttons get missed.
- The Heal Weave: mid-fight, absorb a zone and spend the three enhanced basics deliberately — dash to stay in range, flurry while your lowest-HP ally is actually near you (the heal picks them automatically), tail strike to plant the next zone where the fight is moving.
- Wall Service: against dash carries — Beatrix, Irithel, Wanwan — never slam into open ground. Slam them into a wall or under your turret, where the escape they saved has nowhere to go.
Rotation and map control
She roams from minute zero. Take Wavebreaker first, and arrive at the turtle-side choke with a zone already down — walking in clean means your Tidal Strike has no leap and your passive has no teeth if the enemy roam shows up. Her draft rule is the one MLBBHub states bluntest: if you cannot name the teammate who finishes the hero you grab, you are the wrong pick. She pairs with finishers — Fanny, Lancelot, Saber, Ling, Hayabusa — or a burst mid like Eudora, Kagura or Valentina who chain-deletes whoever lands in the pile.
Her snowball isn't items, it's cooldowns. Fleeting Time refunds a chunk of Tsunami Slam's cooldown on every kill or assist, so each converted pickoff brings the next suplex online sooner — a Kalea landing grabs and a Kalea missing them are two different heroes by minute ten. Her Water Zone is territory: enemies must respect the perch angles near its edge and near walls, and her third enhanced basic re-plants the zone forward, so a won fight rolls straight into the next bush. She can also flex to EXP lane when the draft already has a frontline — the War Axe bruiser variant trades her roam utility for the ability to finish her own grabs.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The roam spine: Tough Boots → Fleeting Time → Dominance Ice → Thunder Belt → Oracle or Athena's Shield → Immortality. Tough Boots because she gets focused on the walk-up and the CC reduction is what lets her finish it; Fleeting Time is the engine, close to locked. Thunder Belt's slow proc helps grabs stick in long fights — swap in Blade Armor when the enemy leans on basic-attack carries (Melissa, Karrie, Irithel, Moskov). Oracle when your comp runs heals, Athena's when the burst is magic. MLBBDex's most-played build agrees on the spine: Oracle, Dominance Ice, Fleeting Time. Roam blessing: Conceal for pickoff games, Favor when the team needs sustain.
The emblem desk is genuinely split, so here's the honest version: MLBBHub runs the Support emblem — Agility, Pull Yourself Together, Focusing Mark — because those talents refresh her Flicker and amplify her team's damage on the hero she just grabbed. MLBBDex's most-played setup is the Tank emblem, and MLBB.io's (small-sample) build board leans Tank with Concussive Blast. My call: Support for the pickoff build, Tank when you're the only frontline. The spell is not split at all: Flicker, unanimously — Hub, Dex, MLBB.io (100% of its tracked builds) and Zathong all land there. Revitalize survives only in year-old EXP-lane lists; on a hero whose whole job is grab angles, surrendering the blink is surrendering the hero. The EXP variant (War Axe first, Fighter emblem) is a real, sourced alternative — it's just not the default.
How to counter her
Start with the measured edges. MLBB.io's matchup table: Hanabi (+2.0 win-rate points into her), Phoveus (+1.9), X.Borg (+1.6), Karina (+1.1), Valir (+1.1). MLBBHub's measured counter trio is Phoveus, Balmond and Tigreal; MLBBDex's Mythic trio is Tigreal, Carmilla and Hanabi. MLCounter's matchup data adds the fighters who simply brawl her down — Chou (she wins just 44% into him), Martis (46%), Franco (47%) and Khufra (48%).
The draft answers are nastier than the matchups. Diggie's ultimate purifies the grab and wraps his whole team in CC immunity — engage into it and you've donated your longest cooldown. Baxia strangles the passive healing her kit leans on, and anti-heal items do a cheaper version of the same job. In-game: the grab's range is short, so make her walk for it; CC her during the Tidal Strike charge and the perch dies with it; never hug walls or your own tower, her two favourite slam addresses; avoid narrow lanes and jungle chokepoints, and commit as a group so her heal can't outpace the damage. Item-wise, MLBB.io points at Antique Cuirass, Blade Armor, Dominance Ice and Tough Boots.
And who does she eat? The immobile backline. MLCounter's numbers have her beating Chang'e (58% in the matchup), Layla (57%), Yve (55%) and Miya (52%) — carries with no dash don't get outplayed by the suplex. They get carried by it. Literally.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The Wrong-Way Suplex": slamming the carry away from your team — or politely delivering her to her own. The joystick picks the landing spot; aim before you grab, every time.
- "Grabbing the Tank": the tank is closest, so the tank gets grabbed, and now your 55-second cooldown has delivered a full-HP wall into your own backline while the enemy marksman free-hits. Your assassin already chose the target. Deliver that one.
- "Fighting Off the Puddle": engaging with no Water Zone on the ground. No leap on Tidal Strike, no enhanced basics, no heal — just a low-mobility body with one button. Zone first, heroics second.
- "The Perfect-Pick Hoarder": sitting on the ultimate waiting for the highlight-reel grab while ordinary, gettable kills walk past. A landed ordinary pick beats a saved perfect one, every game.
- "The One-Phase Charge": Tidal Strike with no wall and no zone edge in its path is a single 0.6-second knock-up followed by a long walk home. Check the terrain before you charge.
- "The Wasted Flurry": the second enhanced basic is your only heal, disguised as a punch. Dumping it while your carry is full HP across the lane — or letting the 12-second buff expire unused — is throwing a teammate's life bar away.
FAQ
- Support or fighter — what is she, really? A roam support wearing a fighter's body. Moonton rates her Control 9 and Offense 3: she sets kills up and keeps people standing; the finishing belongs to somebody else.
- Can Tsunami Slam be interrupted? No — she's crowd-control immune for the entire grab. The counters all happen before it lands: peel her off the approach, Diggie's ultimate, or simply never standing within 7.5 units of her.
- Why do tank items make her heal more now? Because 2.2.16 re-anchored Surge of Life's heal to 12% of her Max HP. Every HP item is quietly also a heal item — which is why the tank build and the healing finally agree with each other.
- Flicker or Revitalize? Flicker, and the current sources don't even make it close — every tracked build desk runs it. Revitalize survives only in stale EXP-lane lists.
- Is she worth learning after the double buff? In a duo or a stack with a finisher, absolutely — she's the tracker board's biggest riser at +2.7%. As a blind solo-queue pick, her ~49% win rate tells the truth: the grab needs a team that cashes it.
Final verdict
Two buffs in a month dragged Kalea from "one of the weakest supports" — Moonton's own words — to the fastest-rising hero on the trackers, and the buffs were aimed exactly right: a faster, harder Wavebreaker, a heal that scales with the bulk she already buys, and an ultimate that now rewards the tank build instead of begging for attack items. She is still not a carry and never will be. She is a delivery service with a nurse's side hustle, and in the right draft that's worth more than damage.
Play her if: you roam alongside a finisher — an assassin or burst mage who converts a delivered target — and you enjoy winning fights before they start.
Skip her if: your team has nobody to cash the grab, the enemy locked Diggie or Baxia, or you want a support who wins by standing still and healing — she wins by hunting.
