Mathilda MLBB Guide: Her Best Skill Is on Your Screen (Season 42)
A D-tier win rate in solo queue, a ban magnet in pro play: Mathilda hands her carry a free dash out of death — if they take it. Kit, builds, counters.
Your marksman is dead. Not "in trouble" — dead. He stepped two pixels too far for a cannon minion, the enemy assassin is already mid-dash, and the death timer is a formality. Then a circle of wind opens beside him. He taps the little icon it puts on his screen, and he is suddenly standing next to Mathilda — shielded, sped up, and very much alive — while the assassin's combo lands on empty grass. That is Mathilda's whole job: she doesn't heal your mistake, she deletes it. And here is the tragedy that defines her in Season 42: in solo queue, half the time, the marksman never taps the icon. He dies staring at it. Mathilda is the Swift Plume, Mobile Legends' first Support/Assassin, a Western Desert tribal girl who guarded the Holy Mountain against Kane's sand hunters and inherited its power — and the most coordination-gated hero in the game. Her best skill is a button on somebody else's screen.
Why she's feared (and loved)
Every roamer protects the carry. Mathilda is the only one who can pick him up and move him. Guiding Wind doesn't just shield an ally — it offers him a dash to her position, which means an overextended core isn't punished, he's relocated. Coordinated teams build entire plays around that: she dives in with Circling Eagle, a teammate rides the wind in behind her, and a 2v1 becomes a 2v3 before the enemy finishes blinking. Her damage is real, too — a full Soul Bloom release plus her crash landing deletes squishies early. In pro play she was a terror: Dunia Games records a 93.18% ban rate for her in MPL Indonesia Season 8 — heritage, not current form — and blooing notes she was a favourite of OhMyV33NUS, the most decorated support in the game's history. MLBBDex's data (19 Oct 2026) quietly agrees: Carmilla's strongest measured duos include Mathilda, and Atlas wins more with her beside him. When the lobby talks to each other, she is a cheat code. When it doesn't, keep reading.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
The paperwork first, because it is brutal. Patch 2.2.16 (16 Sep 2026) did not touch her — confirmed two ways: she is absent from the verified adjustment list (revamps Masha and Bruno; adjustments from Aulus to Kaja), and blooing's complete 2.2.16 roundup, read end to end, never mentions her. Her last documented change is older: VCGamers' Season 41 recap lists Mathilda among the Patch 2.1.88 buffs, and the kit she plays now is the one Patch 1.8.20 rebuilt — the ultimate that lets her choose where to crash. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026) has no Fandom page; its documented changes (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) include no Mathilda, so any claim she changed there is UNCONFIRMED. An advance-server patch (2.2.26) reportedly raised her stats — test server only, UNCONFIRMED for live.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (Season 42, patch 2.2.16a, all ranks, last 7 days; checked 21 Oct 2026): 44.6% win rate, 0.14% pick rate, 0.18% ban rate — D tier, the worst raw numbers in the support queue. - MLBBDex (19 Oct 2026): C tier at 44.8%, with an asterisk for her paper-thin 0.1% pick sample. - EliteDias (15 Oct 2026): D tier at 44.4%. - Pocket Gamer (17 Oct 2026): S+ among Supports (the editorial outlier).
The chorus: 44.4–44.8% — and the Pocket Gamer split is the whole story. MLBBDex's own caption for her reads: "Saves a poorly placed ally and makes up for a positioning error, which counts a lot in solo play." The data trackers measure strangers who won't take the dash. The editorial lists remember what she does when they do. My tier verdict: C+. The solo-queue paperwork is real and it is the worst on this shelf, but it grades her teammates as much as her. In a duo or a five-stack she plays two tiers up. Draft her with coordination, not with hope.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2530→5344, mana 500→1900, Physical Attack 120→214, Physical Defense 22→80, Magic Defense 15→50, MS 252, attack range 4.1. Moonton's own ratings (via MLCounter): Durability 8, Offense 2, Control 4 — read that Offense 2 carefully; the game itself files her burst under "support," whatever the Assassin tag promises. - Passive — Ancestral Guidance: moving charges her up; at full charge her next Basic Attack is enhanced, dealing 200 (+100% Total Physical Attack) (+100% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage and granting 80 Movement Speed that decays over 2.5s. Standing still literally uncharges her — the kit pays for motion. - Skill 1 — Soul Bloom: she resonates for 4s, gathering wisps as she covers distance, up to 6. On re-cast or when the duration ends, the wisps hunt nearby enemies, each dealing 275–500 (+80% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage and briefly revealing them; repeat hits on the same target decay to 40%. It hits concealed and invisible targets inside its 5.3 radius. Cooldown flat 7.5s — her poke, her wave pressure, and half her burst. - Skill 2 — Guiding Wind: she leaps in the target direction and leaves a field where she lands, gaining a 500–1000 (+180% Total Magic Power) shield and 25% Movement Speed for 3s. Allies who touch the field gain 60% of that shield and the Guiding Wind buff; the first ally to activate it dashes straight to Mathilda, and both get the speed boost (the ally's lasts 2s). The field lasts 5s, the buff survives 2s after leaving it, and a rooted ally can't take the ride. Cooldown 12.0 → 11.0s. - Ultimate — Circling Eagle: she marks a target enemy hero with the Soul Mark and circles them for up to 3.5s at fixed distance, the target revealed, wisps pecking nearby enemy heroes for 40 (+15% Total Magic Power) each while Soul Bloom prioritises the marked target. While circling she has control immunity and a 400–600 (+160% Total Magic Power) shield. She then picks an area and crashes: 320–400 (+120% Total Magic Power), knocking enemies in her path airborne for 0.6s and transferring the Soul Mark to the first hero launched. Two traps in the fine print: she is not CC-immune during the dash itself, and if the target dies or escapes range, she stops circling and crashes at their location anyway. Cooldown flat 40s.
Skill priority, my way: ultimate whenever offered, Soul Bloom first (poke, wave pressure, and half her burst), Guiding Wind second.
Combos
- The Eagle Delivery: Circling Eagle onto the priority target, activate Soul Bloom while you're still circling — it prioritises the Soul Mark — then crash through them: airborne, wisp release, and the enhanced basic from Ancestral Guidance to close. ONE Esports documents exactly this sequence deleting a backliner; it is her one full rotation, so spend it on the right name.
- The Bailout: don't throw Guiding Wind at your carry — throw it where he needs to *be*. Field placed between him and safety, he takes the guided dash out through it, and the assassin's whole combo hits scenery. Pre-place it before the fight starts and ping it; a rescue nobody sees coming saves nobody.
- The Two-Man Engage: Guiding Wind forward into the enemy's blind side, and your jungler rides the dash in with you — shielded, sped up, and already in range. You are not just an initiator; you are public transport for one.
Rotation and map control
Level 1, Soul Bloom is your lane tax: Zathong's play notes open with it — harass with the wisps, keep moving to stack them, and never camp one bush. Her whole early game is tempo: she is an aggression roam, not a babysitter, so pair with the jungler, invade sightlines, and force the enemy roam to answer you. Guiding Wind goes down *before* objectives, on the carry's likely escape line — the field lasts 5s, so an early placement still pays out mid-fight. Her power spike isn't an item so much as level 4 plus Dominance Ice: from there every rotation threatens a crash engage. Mid and late, remember Zathong's warning — she is fragile — so scout with a partner or not at all. And Circling Eagle only fires with follow-up in range. A crash that lifts three enemies while your team is at the Turtle pit is just a very stylish death.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
Boots (Favor blessing): Tough Boots into CC and magic, Warrior Boots into physical comps — blooing and mobilelegendsfire referee the flex; Zathong's sets run Arcane Boots on the damage schools. Flask of the Oasis first: 1v9 calls it "practically made for Mathilda," because it fattens the exact shields she hands out. Dominance Ice second — mobilelegendsfire names it her best single item, and it anchors Zathong's pro build too: armour, mana, and the anti-regen aura her crash delivers into the middle of the enemy. Oracle third: it amplifies her own shields and healing, and it appears in nearly every sourced set. Immortality closes the core, because her crash puts her exactly where revives matter.
Flex honestly: Enchanted Talisman for the mana and cooldown school (Fandom's guide and Zathong's team-buff set), Antique Cuirass and Blade Armor as Zathong's pro-build tail into physical divers, Athena's Shield or Radiant Armor into magic burst, Fleeting Time on blooing's support build when your crash is winning fights, and Glowing Wand as the damage flex — the Fandom guide and Zathong both run it, and the full assassin school (Genius Wand, Holy Crystal, Divine Glaive) exists on blooing's mage build if your lobby lets you play mid.
Emblem: Support — Agility, Pull Yourself Together, Focusing Mark. Codashop builds her Support emblem on Agility into Focusing Mark — the school that fits the job: speed to charge the passive, and a mark that pays your team for the target your crash delivered.
Battle spell: Flicker. Blooing and Zathong both land on it — it repositions the crash and gives a dive-happy support an exit that isn't a teammate-dependent dash. Revitalize is mobilelegendsfire's popularity leader and Aegis is the game's own recommendation; neither repositions an eagle.
How to counter her
Her measured worst matchup is Baxia at 42% over 245 games (MLCounter, page updated 5 Sep 2026 — direction, not gospel): VCGamers explains why — Baxia Mark cuts her shield and regen by 50% for 4s, which guts both Guiding Wind and her circling shield. Badang (45%), Vale (46%) and Franco (48%) follow on MLCounter's table. Franco matters for a specific reason the Fandom guide states plainly: her circling control immunity ignores normal CC, so use suppression — Bloody Hunt is the lock that still applies. ONE Esports names Minsitthar the best counter in the game: King's Calling grounds dash heroes, and inside it she cannot use Guiding Wind or Circling Eagle at all — her entire kit is a dash with paperwork. Wanwan (47%) cleanses the crash CC with Needles in Flowers and out-runs the wisps (ONE Esports), and VCGamers adds Khufra, whose Bouncing Ball is a wall built specifically for dash heroes.
Items: the Lifebane trio (Sea Halberd, Glowing Wand, Dominance Ice) against the shields, Winter Crown to dodge the crash (Zathong, MLCounter), and Purify to strip the Soul Mark (MLCounter). The anti-play: save one hard CC for the crash *landing* — she is vulnerable during the dash, not the circle — spread so one crash can't lift two, and punish the 40 seconds after her ultimate is down, because without it she's a shield and a rumour.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The Solo Eagle": Zathong's core instruction is to aim the ultimate at the right target with the team in range. A solo crash is a 40-second cooldown spent delivering yourself.
- "The Wind Into the Void": Throwing the field where no ally is standing — or where a stranger will never tap it — is the coordination tax in its purest form. Place it on the escape line, ping it, say it in chat.
- "The Two-Wisp Release": The cap is six and the damage lives at the cap. Keep moving, let it fill, then release.
- "The Statue": Her passive and her wisps both charge off movement. A stationary Mathilda is a support with her engine off.
- "The Silent Draft": Locking her for a passive solo lobby — or worse, into Franco suppression and a Minsitthar — and expecting the pro-play version. The trackers' 44% is mostly this mistake, repeated at scale.
FAQ
- Why is her win rate 44% if pros used to ban her? Coordination. Her rescue and her engage both need a teammate's input — a tapped dash, a followed crash — and ranked strangers provide neither reliably. The 44.4–44.8% chorus (MLBBHub, MLBBDex, EliteDias, Oct 2026) measures that gap; Pocket Gamer's S+ remembers the ceiling.
- How does the ally dash actually work? Your Guiding Wind field gives touching allies 60% of your shield and a buff. The first ally to activate it dashes directly to you, and you both get the movement speed boost. It won't fire while the ally is rooted, and only one ally rides per cast.
- Can crowd control stop Circling Eagle? Not while she circles — she's control-immune with a shield. Suppression (Franco's Bloody Hunt, Kaja) still applies, and she's fully CC-able during the final dash. Save your stun for the landing.
- Roam or mid — where does she belong? Roam is the measured home and the recommended one. A damage school exists (blooing's mage build, Zathong's burst set) for mid or EXP experiments, but her ranked numbers, her Favor blessing synergy and her rescue kit all point at roam.
- What changed for Mathilda in Season 42? Nothing in patch 2.2.16 or, per the documented lists, 2.2.16a — any claim otherwise is UNCONFIRMED. Her last documented touch is the Patch 2.1.88 buff listed in VCGamers' Season 41 recap; the kit dates from Patch 1.8.20's ultimate rework.
Final verdict
Mathilda is the support pick that grades your lobby instead of the enemy. In a silent ranked game she is a 44% win rate with beautiful mechanics. In a duo, a five-stack, or any lobby where one carry knows what the little wind icon does, she is a rescue service, a taxi and an engage button wearing one hero.
Play her if: you queue with at least one partner, your comp has a diver who wants a ride in (or a carry who needs a ride out), and you'll communicate the dash like it matters — because it's the whole hero.
Skip her if: you're solo in a passive lobby, the enemy draft shows Minsitthar, Franco or Baxia, or you want a support whose value doesn't depend on a stranger pressing a button. Take Estes or Rafaela and keep your win rate out of other people's hands.
