Marcel MLBB Guide: The Photographer Who Stops Fights (Season 42)
A 58.1% win rate, a 34% ban rate, and a camera that freezes fights solid — on a support almost nobody plays. Marcel, honestly: the defense that is damage, the two-second pause, and the team that has to spend it.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Turtle fight, minute six, and their Eudora does the thing Eudora does: finger on the ultimate, my marksman dead centre of the target circle, lightning already warming up. I drop Golden Hour over the pit. The ult never lands. It hangs there — frozen mid-cast inside a photograph — while my Snap-shielded carry, allowed to move inside my own freeze, walks out of the circle and keeps shooting. Two seconds later time restarts, the lightning fizzles into empty grass, and their mage is standing in a 60% slow.
That is Marcel, the Soul Photographer — hero #132, a House Paxley artist whose split soul, Clemar, lives inside his camera (Fandom's story; Melissa is his half-sister). His crowd control is not a stun, not a root, not anything Purify has ever heard of. It is a pause button. Feared, because Frozen Moment is uncleanseable, ultimate-grade control fired automatically by a camera. Loved, because no other roamer lets you stop a teamfight and restart it on your terms. The catch: the pause is two seconds, and it is only worth what your team spends inside it.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Patch paperwork first. Patch 2.2.16 (16 Sep 2026) filed Marcel as an ADJUST, per Fandom's official patch notes, read directly: Skill 1 base damage 350–700 → 300–650, its cooldown 12.5–10s → 15–12s; Skill 2's cooldown the same; and the Ultimate was buffed — Golden Hour can now freeze location-targeted skills (the designer note names Eudora's Ultimate and Vexana's Skill 2), though its cooldown went 74–62s → 90–66s. Blooing's roundup confirms the shape. Staleness flag, and it matters: Fandom's hero page still prints the pre-2.2.16 cooldowns and an older Skill 1 damage table — the patch note governs. Underneath sits the Patch 2.1.88 rework (Fandom patch history), detailed in the kit below. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026) has no Fandom page; its documented list has no Marcel — any contrary claim is [UNCONFIRMED], and none surfaced.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton data): - MLBBHub statistics (all ranks, last 7 days; checked 21 Oct 2026): S tier, #2 of 133 — 58.1% win rate, 0.28% pick, 33.9% ban. - MLBBDex (statistics updated 19 Oct 2026, patch 2.2.16): S+ tier, Roam — 58.1% win rate, 0.3% pick, 33.8% ban. - MLBB.io (hero statistics, October 2026): S tier — 57.8% win rate, 0.29% pick, 35.2% ban.
Chorus: 57.8–58.1% win rate, ~34% ban, 0.28% pick — banned over a hundred times more often than played. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame threads surfaced — tracker/creator material only; MLBBHub's thesis: name the chokepoint and the carry who spends the freeze, or pick another roamer.
My tier verdict: S-. The best paperwork any support owns this season — S or S+ on every desk, the game's second-highest win rate. The minus is the fine print: specialists only, longer cooldowns, and half his value lives in teammates understanding the pause.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2950→5190, Mana 500→1900, Physical Attack 115→216, Physical Defense 30→51, Magic Defense 20→27, Movement Speed 260. Moonton's ratings (via MLBB.io): Offense 3, Durability 7, Control 10, Difficulty 3. Released 11 March 2026 (Patch 2.1.61), the face of Season 40: Decisive Moment. - Passive — Platinum Snap: Two engines in one. His Basic Attacks deal 50 (+40% Total Physical Attack) (+40% Total Physical Defense) (+40% Total Magic Defense) Physical Damage — damage that scales off his own armor — and his Extra HP converts into Hybrid Defense. And Clemar automatically photographs nearby enemy heroes: a brief Frozen Moment plus True Damage of 20 + 5% of the target's Max HP, granting a shield of the same value to Marcel and a nearby allied hero; 12s cooldown per target. Frozen Moment is ultimate-level control that cannot be removed (Fandom) — it stops movement, Basic Attacks and skills, though not skills, Blinks or Charges already in motion. - Skill 1 — Framed Moment: Clemar focuses on an area around Marcel, slowing enemy heroes inside by 60%. After 2.5s he completes the shot: 300–650 base damage (the 2.2.16 figure; the hero page's table still prints 370–520) (+50% Total Physical Attack) (+120% Total Physical Defense) (+120% Total Magic Defense) Physical Damage. Cooldown 15→12s post-2.2.16 (page prints 12.5→10s — patch governs), mana 40–65. It used to immobilize; Patch 2.1.88 traded the lock for the heavier slow. - Skill 2 — Tracking Shot: Marcel enters Tracking Haste for 3s — +15–27.5% Movement Speed, rising to +75–112.5% when moving toward an enemy hero. Recast and he dashes in the target direction, leaving a framing phantom behind — and if Framed Moment is active, Clemar and the Skill 1 area stay at the original location to finish the shot without him (Fandom). Cooldown 15→12s post-2.2.16 (page prints 12.5→10s), mana 70–95. - Ultimate — Golden Hour: After a short delay, Clemar takes a wide-angle shot of the target area for 2s. Inside it Marcel gains Tracking Haste; every other unit is put into Frozen Moment, immune to all effects except Marcel's; projectiles freeze mid-flight and resume afterwards (targeted ones at 50% damage); and since 2.2.16, location-targeted skills are frozen too. Golden Hour resets Platinum Snap's cooldown for every enemy hero caught, and allies holding the Platinum Snap shield can move freely inside the area (Patch 2.1.67). Since Patch 2.1.88, frozen heroes can be targeted by your team — a kill window now, not an untouchable cage (Fandom patch history; MLBBHub). Fine print: during the cast delay and for 1s after activation, Clemar sits outside the circle — no Platinum Snap then. Cooldown 90/78/66s post-2.2.16 (page prints 74/68/62 — patch governs), mana 150. - Skill priority, my way: Tracking Shot at level 1 (MLBBHub), then Framed Moment maxed first — the damage and the 60% slow are the kit's spine. Golden Hour at 4/8/12, Tracking Shot last.
Combos
- "The Planted Shot" (the signature): Tracking Shot's approach boost in → plant Framed Moment on the fight → recast Tracking Shot and dash out, leaving Clemar behind to finish the shot from the original spot (MLBBHub; Fandom). You commit a 2.5-second wind-up without committing your body.
- "The Golden Freeze": wait until both teams are committed → Golden Hour over the clump → your Snap-shielded carry keeps moving and firing inside it while the enemy poses; when it ends, the Snap reset sprays fresh shields for the counter-engage (MLBBHub).
- "The Peel Photo": when a diver commits on your carry, plant Framed Moment on your retreating backline and dash backward with them (MLBBHub) — Clemar finishes the slow on the chaser, the carry gets the next Snap shield, and the dive dies in a puddle of 60% slow.
Rotation and map control
Roam is the desk, and his first minutes are scripted (MLBBHub): help your jungler clear blue with defense-scaled autos — don't take it — then rotate. Take Tracking Shot first, and hold the first real roam for level 4 and the first Golden Hour; a level-2 Marcel visit is a slow with a camera, not a kill.
After that, his map is a list of chokepoints. Marcel does not chase fights; he photographs the places fights are forced to happen — the Turtle pit, the Lord dance, a tower funnel — where terrain stacks bodies inside Golden Hour. Stand closer to your carry than to your tank (MLBBHub's tip): Platinum Snap shields the *nearest* allied hero, so your positioning chooses who gets armored. And run the Clemar check before every cast — during Golden Hour's delay your passive is offline and your Skill 1 sits outside the circle with the camera: the second after the freeze is your most naked moment.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The locked core: Thunder Belt → Dominance Ice → Oracle. MLBBHub's FAQ names exactly those three; blooing's patch-2.2.16 build runs all three too. Why: defense is damage on Marcel, so Thunder Belt's defense-scaled proc is a damage item, Dominance Ice adds defense as enemies crowd him and cuts their healing and shields, and Oracle adds cooldown reduction — load-bearing after 2.2.16 — plus stronger shields received. Spike: Thunder Belt, ~minutes 8–11 (MLBBHub) — its slow then chains into Framed Moment's 60%, and dashless targets don't leave the zone. Boots split: Tough Boots are MLBBHub's default (Tenacity vs Franco/Khufra cast interruption); blooing locks Rapid Boots with Encourage. Fourth–sixth: Flask of the Oasis (blooing — cooldowns plus stronger shields granted), then flex: Athena's Shield (magic burst), Antique Cuirass (fed physical carry), Radiant Armor (sustained magic), Immortality sixth. Emblem: Support — unanimous. Two talent rows circulate: MLBBHub runs Agility / Pull Yourself Together / Focusing Mark; blooing and MLBB.io's tracked builds run Agility / Wilderness Blessing / Concussive Blast (Agility in 5 of 5 tracked builds). Battle spell — a three-way split, refereed: MLBBHub's current answer is Petrify — it replaces the hard lock Framed Moment lost in 2.1.88. The tracked builds disagree: MLBB.io's sample runs Revitalize in 60% (blooing's pick too — it strengthens nearby shields) and Flicker in 40%. My call: Petrify without a second lock, Revitalize for grouped fights, Flicker vs hooks.
How to counter him
Start with the measured edges. Two desks agree on the top answers: Angela (+4.9 win-rate points on MLBBHub's data via blooing's table, ranked data updated 17 Sep 2026; +5.0 on MLBB.io's October counter page) and Floryn (+4.2 on both), then Lesley (+4.1, Hub), Esmeralda (+3.8), Karina (+3.1) and Aamon (+2.1) on MLBB.io — shields and heals outlast the two-second window; Angela leaves inside another hero's body. MLCounter's older table adds Fanny, Hayabusa, Yin and Kadita. - Don't stand for the photo. Spread out (MLBB.io's in-game advice): Golden Hour pays per body inside it, and Framed Moment's slow only traps people who stay for the 2.5s wind-up. Save your dash for the first control cast. - Frozen Moment cannot be cleansed (Fandom) — Purify does not remove it. It does not interrupt skills, Blinks or Charges already in motion: start your dash *before* the shutter clicks and you ride through the freeze. - Bait the longest cooldown in the role. Golden Hour is 90 seconds at rank 1 after 2.2.16. Force it on a skirmish, disengage, and contest the next objective while he watches. - Items: MLBB.io's answers: Blade Armor and Antique Cuirass (armor taxes his defense-scaled damage) plus Tough Boots. Who he counters is the mirror image — heroes who gather and stand still. He is the measured worst matchup of the engage-tank family — Atlas above all (MLBBHub measured; MLCounters and MLBB.io rank Marcel his #1 counter; MLBBDex: "by far his worst measured opponent"), plus Johnson, Grock and Khufra (MLBBHub measured); blooing's data adds Akai and Chip. MLBBHub's draft targets are the stationary area-damage dealers — Cecilion, Vexana, Hanabi, Xavier, Layla. If your team's damage stands in one square to work, Marcel is the tax collector.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The River Ult": Burning Golden Hour on the first skirmish you see (MLBBHub). A 90-second rank-1 cooldown buying a two-second window — spend it on a river 2v2 and the next objective happens without you.
- "The Straight-Line Sprint": Running Tracking Shot's approach boost directly at a Franco or a Selena (MLBBHub). You are a slow support sprinting in a straight line at the two best hook artists in the game. The boost finishes engaged targets; it doesn't start fights.
- "The Ghost Stun": Treating Framed Moment as a stun (MLBBHub). It hasn't immobilized since Patch 2.1.88 — it's a 60% slow with a 2.5s fuse. If your carry isn't in range to punish before the target dashes out, decoration.
- "The Wave-Clear Photo": Spending Framed Moment on a minion wave (MLBBHub). It is not a wave-clear tool — every cast on creeps is a peel you'll want back.
- "The Suppression Blindspot": Ulting into a Kaja or Khufra mid-cast (MLBBHub). Suppression runs straight through your setup and drags you out of your own photograph. Wait out their channel, then freeze.
FAQ
- Did Patch 2.2.16 buff or nerf Marcel? Both — it's an ADJUST (Fandom patch notes): Skill 1 damage and both basic-skill cooldowns were trimmed and stretched, but Golden Hour gained the location-target freeze.
- Can Purify or Diggie cleanse the freeze? No — Frozen Moment "cannot be removed" (Fandom). Beat it with timing: it doesn't interrupt skills, Blinks or Charges already in motion.
- Why does a support build armor to deal damage? Because his Basic Attacks and Framed Moment scale off his Total Physical *and* Magic Defense (+40%/+120%), and his passive converts Extra HP into Hybrid Defense (MLBBHub calls him the only support whose damage scales with his own defense). The defensive buy *is* the damage buy.
- Why is he banned in a third of games but picked in almost none? 33.9% ban vs 0.28% pick on MLBBHub: teams ban the two seconds they don't want to play against — and the pick rate stays tiny because cashing the freeze needs coordination.
- Do his Basic Attacks still shorten Platinum Snap's cooldown? Not since Patch 2.1.88 removed that effect (MLBBHub's tips). The photo is on a flat 12s per-target clock now — position for the next one.
Final verdict
Marcel in Season 42 is the strangest S-tier paperwork in the game: the second-highest win rate on the ladder, a ban rate over a hundred times his pick rate, and a kit Moonton keeps adjusting. The 2.2.16 version is slower early — and more dangerous, because Golden Hour now eats the location-targeted ultimates that used to answer it. Not a healer, not a tank, not a damage dealer. He is a two-second argument that the fight should happen on his team's terms, and in coordinated hands that argument wins games by itself.
Play him if: your team plays grouped, front-to-back fights at chokepoints with a carry who fires into the freeze on call, and the enemy draft is stationary area damage (Cecilion, Vexana, Hanabi, Xavier) or an engage tank he bullies (Atlas, Johnson, Grock, Khufra).
Skip him if: your comp wants to scatter and dive (Ling and Lancelot do not need a photographer), the enemy runs two or more dash assassins or a Kaja/Khufra suppression, or you're solo-queuing with a team that fires its ultimates into your freeze. Take Kalea and deliver one person at a time. Marcel doesn't win fights. He *schedules* them.
