Claude MLBB Guide: Preparation Is the Whole Weapon (Season 42)
A 49.1% win rate on the thief the pros keep drafting — because Claude is not a hero, he is a checklist. The stacks, the mirror, the three-second spin, honestly.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Lord pit, minute sixteen, and I am not in the pit. My mirror has been parked behind the wall, ticking down, while I fan Art of Thievery through the last of the wave and straight through their tank — five stacks, stolen speed humming. Their stun goes into my frontline. That's my cue. I step in, press Blazing Duet, and for three seconds Claude and Dexter spin in the middle of five people dealing damage in every direction at once — then the mirror blinks, I'm back behind the wall, and the fight I "fed" is a fight I was never standing in.
That is Claude, the Master Thief of Los Pecados. Fandom's story: an orphan thief used as a pawn by crime lord Waldo Kane, imprisoned, then handed Merlin's mantle — god of thieves. His partner Dexter is the monkey who once stole *his* gold coin in Moniyan — Claude didn't catch a thief, he adopted one. Even his mirror device is stolen goods, lifted from Dr. Rooney in Eruditio. Feared, because he fights with two guns, steals your speed with one fan, and turns grouped teams into a blender. Loved, because pros keep drafting him a decade in. The catch: he is a preparation hero. Zero stacks, no mirror down, and he's just a squishy man standing next to a monkey.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Patch paperwork first, and his is blissfully thin. Patch 2.2.16 (16 Sep 2026) did not touch Claude — confirmed two ways: he's absent from the verified adjustment list (Masha/Bruno revamps plus twenty adjustments, Aulus through Kaja), and I read blooing's full 2.2.16 roundup end to end — ranked, Classic and Brawl sections — and his name appears zero times. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026) has no Fandom page; its documented list (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) has no Claude either — any contrary claim is [UNCONFIRMED], and none surfaced. His last documented change is older: Season 41's Patch 2.1.88, where VCGamers' recap lists Claude among the nerfed heroes (no specifics published). Staleness flag: mirrors like GamerHub still print retired numbers (a weaker Duet, Thievery stacking to 10) — current Fandom governs below.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton data): - MLBBHub statistics (Season 42 / patch 2.2.16a, all ranks, last 7 days; checked 21 Oct 2026): B tier — 49.09% win rate, 0.73% pick, 0.22% ban. Ranked #83 of 133. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026): B tier Gold Lane — 49.1% win rate, 0.7% pick, 0.2% ban. - MLCounters.app (gold-lane page, checked 21 Oct 2026): 49.10% win rate overall; wins his measured lane matchups vs Ixia, Granger and Harith. - timesaver.gg (Season 42 gold-lane article, citing MLBBHub 2.2.16 data): ~49%, filed under "high-skill, pro-favoured" — "item-hungry, high mechanical cost" — quoting a pro gold-lane tier list from r/MobileLegendsGame calling Claude and Karrie "still dominant" at the top. - MLCounter.com (page updated ~19 days before this check): rates him Durability 3 / Offense 6 / Control 1; its matchup table is in the counter section.
The chorus: 49.09–49.10% — the desks agree to a decimal point. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Claude threads surfaced — tracker/creator material only, plus the pro-list paraphrase above.
My tier verdict: B−. B paperwork on every desk, a sub-50 chorus, and a 0.22% ban rate — ladder players do not fear him. The specialist ceiling is real and documented; it's the only thing between him and a C.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2370→4155, Physical Attack 97→195, Physical Defense 14→56, Magic Defense 15→38, Attack Speed 1.03→1.24 (ratio 100%), Movement Speed 240. Wiki quirk: Fandom's stat table prints his mana as 0 while its skill tables list real costs (65–200) — trust the costs. - Passive — Battle Side-by-side: Every time Claude's basic attack lands, Dexter fires at the same target for 20 (+35% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage. Dexter's basics can trigger Claude's attack effects at 30% effectiveness. Translation: Claude never attacks once — he attacks one-and-a-bit times, and every on-hit item double-dips on the bit. (ManaBuy's in-game read prints 25 (+25%) — Fandom governs.) - Skill 1 — Art of Thievery: A fan of damage, 160–285 (+40% Total Physical Attack), that steals speed: enemies hit lose 20→30% Movement Speed and 10→20% Attack Speed (by rank). For each target hit, Claude gains a stack of Movement/Attack Speed bonus — 4→7% per stack by rank on Fandom's level table (its prose says hero hits count double), up to 5 stacks, lasting 6s. Flat 5.0s cooldown; mana 65–90. This button is the whole hero: arrive at fights already fast, with the enemy already slow. - Skill 2 — Battle Mirror Image: Leaves a mirror image of Dexter at a target location for 5.5s. The mirror auto-attacks nearby enemies for the same 20 (+35% Total Physical Attack) and can trigger Claude's attack effects; recast and Claude swaps places with it. Cooldown 11.0→8.5s, starting on the summon (Fandom); mana 70–120. Not a dash — a return ticket you buy *before* the crime. - Ultimate — Blazing Duet: For 3s, Claude and Dexter rapidly fire at nearby enemies: 100–130 (+10% Total Physical Attack) per shot, up to two targets per shot, benefiting from his basic-attack effects, and hits feed a shield absorbing 20 (+3% Total Physical Attack). Fandom's fine print matters: with three or more enemies around, the two shots pick targets at random — damage splits by dice roll; it only targets enemies he can see (stealth walks out of it); and it can only be interrupted by high-level control — airborne, suppression, freeze, transformation. Ordinary stuns bounce off the spin. Cooldown 50/45/40s; mana 150–200.
Skill priority, my way: Art of Thievery first and maxed — the engine, the slow and the speed in one 5-second button. Blazing Duet at 4/8/12. Battle Mirror Image second: you level it for the cooldown, because the swap is your life insurance.
Combos
- "The Pre-Stacked Entry" (the signature): Art of Thievery through the wave *and* a hero → mirror down behind safe ground → wait until the enemy's real interrupt is spent → Blazing Duet → recast the mirror and leave (ManaBuy's teamfight entry). Three preparations, one button of violence. Skip one and it's not a combo, it's a donation.
- "The Lane Finish": Art of Thievery → basic attack → Battle Mirror Image → Blazing Duet, only when the target is low enough that the Duet is a finish and not a hope (ManaBuy). The mirror goes down *before* the ult, so the chase ends with you somewhere else.
- "The Split-Push Ghost": shove the side lane with the mirror parked back over a wall. When they send two to answer, swap out and take the other side of the map — the marksman who pressures two lanes with one body.
Rotation and map control
Gold lane is the desk — every source here plays him there. The early game is farm protection with manners: fan Art of Thievery *through* the wave whenever the same fan also clips the enemy laner, so every clear is also a trade (ManaBuy). His first real threat jump arrives with the on-hit core; losing waves to chase low-percentage fights delays the exact minutes where he becomes a problem. Play like it.
Mid game, rotate with the mirror discipline: return point behind a wall or inside allied space *before* you join an objective fight, stacks loaded off the nearest safe target, entry from an angle that gives the Duet two valuable targets instead of the whole enemy team (ManaBuy). Late, basic-attack from Malefic Gun range and treat the ultimate as a timed punish for spent control — never the opening the enemy is waiting for. And mind the blue bar: his full rotation is expensive, and a dry Claude watches teamfights like a spectator with good seats.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The locked core — the Trinity, still consensus: Demon Hunter Sword + Golden Staff + Corrosion Scythe. ManaBuy's five current in-game builds (observed 14 Aug 2026, guide updated 19 Oct 2026) *all* run the three; Zathong's build agrees. The logic is the passive: Dexter, the mirror and the Duet all trigger attack effects, and Golden Staff converts extra crit into attack speed while making every third non-crit basic trigger attack effects an extra time (ManaBuy) — crit items are the trap, on-hit volume is the hero. Order flexes: boots, then Demon Hunter Sword or Corrosion Scythe first, HP-shred or stick. Malefic Gun is the standard fourth/fifth (range, penetration). Boots: Warrior Boots are most common in ManaBuy's set; Tough Boots into magic burst and chain control; Rapid Boots the tempo outlier. Flex: Wind of Nature vs decisive physical burst (ManaBuy — useless against magic or true damage); Rose Gold Meteor for the low-HP shield into mixed damage. Emblem: Marksman — Thrill / Festival of Blood / Quantum Charge (ManaBuy's current in-game row; MLBBHub's curated Claude builds all run Marksman too). Battle spell — a real split, refereed: MLBBHub's curated default and anti-tank builds run Inspire; its CC-heavy build runs Purify. ManaBuy calls Purify the safest default into control teams and offers Aegis when raw damage, not control, is what breaks your channel. My pick: Inspire when your team peels and their interrupt list is short; Purify the moment one removable stun ends your game; Aegis when the threat is burst you can out-shield.
How to counter him
MLCounter.com's measured table is a list of things that arrive before his items do: Claude wins just 41% vs Hayabusa (376 games), 42% vs Selena (265), 45% vs Fanny (246), 46% vs Natalia (354), 47% vs Yi Sun-shin (393). Mobile burst doesn't duel Claude; it deletes the preparation phase. - Bring the control that actually works on him. Ordinary stuns don't interrupt Blazing Duet — Fandom reserves that for airborne, suppression, freeze and transformation. Franco's suppression is the headline (Purify doesn't remove it — ManaBuy), with Eudora's fast point-and-click control plus burst punishing any visible entry (ManaBuy). - Starve the early game. He is item-hungry and weak before the core (MLCounter): gank the gold lane early, deny farm, and ambush him *before* the fight, mid-stack. - Attack his attack speed. Attack-speed-reduction items cut both his basic damage and the Duet's output (MLCounter) — the Dominance Ice aura is the standard buy. His steal doesn't help if he's swinging in syrup. - Don't group, and watch his mana. The Duet pays out against clusters (MLCounter: never stand grouped), and his rotation is mana-expensive — a dry Claude is a marksman with a pet and no tricks. Who he counters is the mirror image — immobile frontlines he steals speed from and shreds (MLCounter, Claude's win rate): Akai 59% (249 games), Hylos 57% (322), Karrie 55% (222), Miya 54% (232), Tigreal 52% (358). Big, grouped, standing still: not a frontline — a buffet with a shield icon.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The Zero-Stack Entrance": Walking into a major fight with no Art of Thievery stacks when a wave or a jungle camp was right there to pre-load them (ManaBuy). Claude at zero stacks is a rumor. Claude at five is a weather event.
- "The Mirror in the Fire": Parking the mirror inside the same control zone you're about to ult in (ManaBuy). The exit dies in the same fire as the entrance, and the swap becomes a teleport to your own funeral.
- "Duet as the Opener": Channeling Blazing Duet before the enemy spends the one control class that ends it — suppression, airborne, freeze (ManaBuy). The ult punishes spent cooldowns. Spend it first and you're a piñata with a shield.
- "Farm Amnesia": Leaving gold-lane farm for a fight with no objective and no safe exit (ManaBuy). Every donated wave adds a minute to the Trinity clock, and Claude without the Trinity is a support with confidence.
- "Damage-Only Shopping": Six damage items when the game asked for Purify, Wind of Nature or a defensive boot (ManaBuy). Dead marksmen deal zero DPS, however beautiful the build screen looked.
FAQ
- Did Patch 2.2.16 change Claude? No — verified absent from the adjustment list, and blooing's complete 2.2.16 roundup (read end to end) never mentions him. The documented 2.2.16a list has no Claude either; claims otherwise are [UNCONFIRMED]. His last documented change is a nerf listing in Season 41's Patch 2.1.88 recaps (VCGamers; no specifics published).
- Why does every Claude build run the same three items? Because Demon Hunter Sword, Golden Staff and Corrosion Scythe multiply attack effects, and everything Claude owns — Dexter, the mirror, the Duet — triggers them. Golden Staff even converts crit into attack speed. Not a lack of imagination; arithmetic.
- What actually stops Blazing Duet? Only high-level control — airborne, suppression, freeze, transformation (Fandom). Regular stuns don't interrupt it. Burst still kills him through the shield, and stealthed enemies aren't targeted at all.
- Inspire or Purify? Inspire is MLBBHub's default when the enemy can't stop the channel; Purify when one removable stun ends you (MLBBHub's CC build, ManaBuy's default into control teams); Aegis when burst, not control, is the threat (ManaBuy).
- If pros love him, why is his win rate under 50? The preparation tax. Stacks, mirror placement, Duet timing — timesaver.gg files him under "high-skill, pro-favoured" for a reason. The aggregate includes everyone learning those three habits in ranked, live, at your expense.
Final verdict
Claude in Season 42 is the ladder's most honest specialist: 49.1% on every desk, B-tier paperwork everywhere, a 0.22% ban rate — and a pro scene that keeps reaching for him anyway. Both are true because the hero is a checklist. Stacks loaded, mirror parked, enemy interrupt spent: he's a two-target blender with a teleport home. Miss one item and he's the squishiest feed in the gold lane. Moonton hasn't touched him in either Season 42 patch, so the checklist you learn today works all season.
Play him if: you'll put in the practice games, your team brings a frontline that burns enemy control first, and the enemy draft is big, grouped and standing still — the Akai/Hylos buffet he posts 57–59% into.
Skip him if: Hayabusa, Selena, Fanny or Natalia are showing, Franco's hook is on the field, or you want a marksman who works on day one. Take Ixia, hold still, and let the barrage come to you instead. Claude doesn't reward talent first. He rewards *preparation* — the talent is just what preparation looks like at speed.
