Chang'e MLBB Guide: Four Seconds of Weather (Season 42)

A 47.9% win rate on the safest mid in the game — a shield that doubles her skills, a slow that stacks to 20%, and a four-second rain she can steal a Lord with. Chang'e in Season 42, honestly.

Why she's feared (and loved)

The Lord dance is four seconds old when the sky opens. The enemy team is posturing at the pit entrance — tank in front, carry tucked behind him. Chang'e isn't walking in either. She stands behind her own frontline and points Meteor Shower diagonally down the corridor. The second wave lands on the mage behind him, and Trouble Maker has done its quiet work by then: twenty little marks, a fifth of his movement speed gone, the rain still falling. The corridor is four seconds long and he is walking through syrup in a thunderstorm. He dies standing up, in weather.

That is Chang'e, the Moon Palace Immortal — the Great Dragon's youngest disciple, exiled for swallowing the Great Dragon's immortality pills like candy and sent to help Zilong (Fandom's story), her bunny Jade riding along. Feared, because she never has to come to you: she sieges from behind her tank, slows you to a wade, and lets a four-second forecast do the killing. Loved, because she is the safest pair of hands in mid — a shield that doubles her skills and safe wave-clear. The catch: no dash, no hard crowd control, a kit made entirely of projectiles. One enemy with the right shield doesn't beat her. He deletes her category.

Season 42 viability: the honest read

Patch paperwork first. Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) did not touch Chang'e — confirmed two ways: absent from the verified adjustment list (Masha/Bruno revamps + 22 adjustments), and blooing's complete 2.2.16 roundup, read end to end, never mentions her, Brawl included. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026): the documented list (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) has no Chang'e — any claimed tweak stays [UNCONFIRMED]. Last documented touch: Patch 2.1.61's mana-cost buffs (MLBBHub), before that 2.1.30 trimming her enhanced basics' turret damage (MLBBHub) and a 2.1.22 adjustment — enhanced basic damage down, S1 cooldown down, S2 damage down (Vortex Gaming's patch summary).

The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily; checked 21 Oct 2026): 47.9% win rate, 0.7% pick rate, 0.3% ban rate, Mid Lane; measured counter podium: Lolita, Claude, Gloo. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026, patch 2.2.16): B tier — 48.1% win rate, 0.7% pick, 0.4% ban. - MLCounter (page updated 13 Oct 2026): prints 49.43% and an S badge — a point and a half hotter than both daily desks. Noted, not averaged in; its matchups below are direction only.

The chorus: 47.9–48.1% win rate on the daily desks, on a 0.7% pick rate — the Mage queue's most-played, and nobody bans her. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Chang'e threads surfaced — tracker/creator material only; the creator school (esports.gg) compresses her into one sentence: "Never fight without a shield." My tier verdict: B-. MLBBDex's B is fair; the minus is structural — a hard draft veto exists (Lolita), she has zero self-peel, and the senior desk holds her under 48%.

The full kit: what every button does

All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2301→4163, Mana 500→1900, Physical Attack 115→222, Physical Defense 16→55, Magic Defense 15→38, Attack Speed 1.01→1.15, Movement Speed 240. Specialty: Poke/Burst. Ratings (via MLCounter): Durability 4, Offense 8, Control 2. - Passive — Trouble Maker: Every time Chang'e deals damage — basics or skills — she leaves a mark. Each mark cuts the target's Movement Speed by 1%, stacking to 20%. A mark lasts ~2.1 seconds (~2.4s at full stacks), refreshed by further damage (Fandom's notes). It looks like nothing — until Meteor Shower lands thirty projectiles and the target is wading. - Skill 1 — Starmoon Shockwave: A sphere in the target direction: 350–500 (+130% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies in its path, 10% slow for 1.5 seconds. Flat 7.0s cooldown, 70–95 mana. With Crescent Moon up, the moon fires 4 extra spheres alongside hers, each at 20% damage — five total — and the slows stack up to 20%. - Skill 2 — Crescent Moon: A shield of 300–500 (+150% Total Magic Power) plus 10% Movement Speed — both last until the shield is destroyed. Every skill cast also grants 50% Movement Speed decaying over 2.5 seconds, and her basics gain +20 (+35% Total Magic Power) bonus Magic Damage for 2 hits (the enhanced basic can crit — Fandom). The hidden engine: every Magic Damage instance she deals cuts this skill's cooldown by 0.2 seconds. Cooldown 12.0→9.5s, mana 60–110. The shield is not defense — it is the on-switch for her empowered S1 and second meteor stream. - Ultimate — Meteor Shower: 30 meteors over 4 seconds in the target direction, each 60–90 (+21% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to the first enemy hit. 100% extra damage to minions and creeps, reveals enemies hit, and she gains 10% Movement Speed for the duration — she walks while it rains. With Crescent Moon up, the moon fires its own meteors alongside hers at 33% damage each (Fandom's note: the moon can fire up to 60). Cooldown 36/33/30s, mana 150–250. A hose, not a nuke: the first second annoys, the fourth kills.

Skill priority, my way: ultimate at 4/8/12, Starmoon Shockwave first (damage and slow both scale; cooldown already flat), Crescent Moon second. Take Crescent Moon at level 1 (MLBBHub's laning school): enhanced basics clear the first wave and the shield eats the return poke.

Combos

  • "The Siege Sequence" (the whole hero): Crescent Moon up → clear and poke with enhanced basics and the five-sphere Starmoon Shockwave through the wave → when a fight or objective starts, Meteor Shower down the corridor the enemy must stand in. MLBBHub's law: not a combo mage — a damage hose with a setup order.
  • "The Setter's Gift": your Atlas or Tigreal lands the group — channel Meteor Shower *through the clump before it disperses* (MLBBHub). The first wave stacks Trouble Maker and Genius Wand shred on everyone; the rest lands on a group that can no longer scatter.
  • "The Finisher Hold": hold Starmoon Shockwave *until after* the ult (MLBBHub). Open with S1 and you've spent your only slow before the channel starts; S1 is the broom for whatever crawls out of the weather at 15% HP.
  • "The Pit Steal": the enemy jungler is finishing Turtle or Lord — channel over the wall into the pit (MLBBHub's tip). The +100% creep damage plus the moon's second stream out-DPSes most Retribution timings if you start early.

Rotation and map control

Mid Lane is home — every current tracker files her there. The first two levels are MLBBHub's script: Crescent Moon at 1, clear with enhanced basics; Shockwave at 2, aimed so the outer spheres clip the enemy mid behind his wave — the center sphere clears, the side spheres stack his slow. Do not burn the ult before the first Turtle unless a gank is already happening (MLBBHub): arriving at the contest with the hose on cooldown is arriving as a spectator.

The mid game runs on one checkpoint: Genius Wand + Holy Crystal, online around 8–10 minutes (MLBBHub's spike window). Before it, Meteor Shower chips; after it, anyone who stands in the full channel dies. From there, MLBBHub's tagline is the doctrine: *push a lane, force a rotation, then ult toward the objective they left unguarded.* Her enhanced basics still bite turrets (trimmed in 2.1.30, not removed): clear a side lane, make someone answer, and rain on the fight they abandoned.

Positioning is the skill check. Channel from behind your own frontline, on a diagonal through the enemy backline's path — never head-on into the tank, whose body eats first-hit meteors (MLBBHub). And don't walk forward mid-channel: the rain is aimed where you started it, and drifting slides the back half off the target. The ult's movement speed is for kiting *backward* when someone dives you.

Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)

The locked spine (MLBBHub): Genius Wand → Holy Crystal → Divine Glaive. Wand's stacking shred procs instantly across five spheres and thirty meteors, Holy Crystal's raw power and percentage multiplier flip the channel from poke to kill, and Glaive answers the Athena's Shields that start appearing. ONE Esports' published build runs the same three. Boots: Arcane Boots default (flat penetration on every projectile); Tough Boots vs three or more crowd-control threats (MLBBHub). Flex by trigger: Ice Queen Wand for a second slow vs divers; Glowing Wand vs two or more HP-stacking frontliners; Blood Wings when snowballing — its Guard shield stacks on Crescent Moon's; Enchanted Talisman in long objective games (20% CDR and Mana Spring: two ults per Lord contest). The Clock of Destiny referee note: older guides open with Clock — MLBBHub calls it *the weakest common default* on her: it delays all three penetration spikes to buy sustain she shouldn't need. Talisman is the legitimate mana item, bought fifth for a job — not first out of habit. Emblem: Mage — Swift / Wilderness Blessing / Impure Rage (MLBBHub). The creator school (esports.gg) runs Thrill / Bargain Hunter or Weapon Master / Weakness Finder — Weakness Finder layers a basic-attack slow onto Trouble Maker; a real fork, a tier below. Battle spell: Flicker, near-unanimous (MLBBHub; ONE Esports) — her only reposition on a hero with no dash. Sprint is the kite school (esports.gg). Flameshot: stale builds only.

How to counter her

MLBBHub's measured podium: Lolita, Claude and Gloo. Lolita is not a matchup, she is a veto — Guardian's Reflection absorbs *every projectile Chang'e owns* and fires it back at her team as a counterblast; MLBBHub's rule is absolute: never pick Chang'e into Lolita. Claude out-ranges her rhythm; Gloo attaches and rides her, and a mage with no peel and no dash just carries him home. MLCounter's matchup table (own dataset — direction only) prices the dive school: Chang'e wins just 41% vs Chou (356 games), 45% vs Lolita (245), 47% vs Jawhead (288), 48% vs Saber (265). MLBBHub adds the structural traps: two blink-and-burst assassins (Saber, Hayabusa, Helcurt) kill her *through* the shield before a channel finishes, and Belerick's taunt forces her to cancel her own ultimate or feed his damage return. SGS's counter desk names a different trio — Diggie, Balmond, X.Borg, sustain answers rather than divers (the desks disagree past Lolita). - Items: cut the shield first — Sea Halberd, Glowing Wand, Dominance Ice (MLCounter) — then plain magic defense: Athena's Shield, Radiant Armor, Oracle (MLCounter). Winter Crown's freeze simply declines a meteor volley. - Play patterns: crowd control cancels Meteor Shower mid-channel (MLCounter) — hold one stun for the cast, not the approach. Stand behind minions or your tank: every meteor stops at the *first* enemy hit (Fandom). Attack after Crescent Moon is spent (MLCounter): no shield, no empowered skills, half a hero. And steal her blue — her full rotation still drinks mana after the 2.1.61 cost buffs (MLCounter; MLBBHub). Who she counters is the mirror image: heroes who must stand still at mid-range and eat weather. MLCounter has her beating Eudora 58% (243 games), Miya 57% (421), Pharsa 55% (245), Lesley 54% (245), Layla 52% (384). MLBBHub's pick conditions agree: immobile mids — Yve, Pharsa, Odette, Gord — wade through her stacked slow while the meteors land.

Mistakes everyone makes

  • "The Lolita Donation": Channeling Meteor Shower into Guardian's Reflection. Every meteor is absorbed, stored, and fired back at your team as one blast (MLBBHub). If the shield goes up, cancel with a move command — a cancelled cooldown stings; feeding her the bomb loses the fight.
  • "The Naked Channel": Ulting without Crescent Moon active. No second meteor stream, no five-sphere follow-up, half the Trouble Maker stacks — MLBBHub: literally half the hero. Shield just broke? Wait for the moon. Never raw-ult.
  • "The Late Umbrella": Pressing Crescent Moon *after* the assassin's combo has landed. The shield absorbs roughly one rotation — worn at 30% HP it's popped by the next stray auto (MLBBHub). Put it on before the punch.
  • "The Minute-Five All-In": Forcing a fight before Genius Wand is finished. Without the shred, the channel is four seconds of chip damage and an empty mana bar; the target recalls and returns (MLBBHub). Farm the Wand. Then fight.
  • "The Forward Drift": Walking forward during Meteor Shower because the movement speed feels like permission. It slides your meteor line forward and the back half misses everyone (MLBBHub). Kite backward or stand still. The rain does the chasing.

FAQ

  • What did Patch 2.2.16 change for Chang'e? Nothing — absent from the verified adjustment list, and blooing's full 2.2.16 roundup never mentions her anywhere, Brawl included. Her last documented touch is Patch 2.1.61's mana-cost buffs (MLBBHub). Any claimed 2.2.16a tweak is [UNCONFIRMED].
  • Is Trouble Maker a damage amplifier or a slow? A slow: −1% Movement Speed per mark, stacking to 20% (Fandom hero page). Guides printing "+2% damage per mark, up to 40%" teach the retired version.
  • When do I recast Crescent Moon? When the shield pops — not on cooldown (MLBBHub; ONE Esports agrees). The kit is empowered only while it holds.
  • Can Meteor Shower be cancelled or interrupted? Both. A move command ends it instantly (MLBBHub) — the play into Lolita's shield or an empty corridor — and enemy crowd control cancels it too (MLCounter).
  • Genius Wand or Clock of Destiny first? Genius Wand (MLBBHub) — the shred stacks on dozens of small hits by the third meteor. Clock is the weakest common default — sustain that delays every spike.

Final verdict

Chang'e in Season 42 is the safest mid in the game and one of the most honest: 47.9–48.1% win rates, a B from MLBBDex, and a kit with no secrets — shield up, spheres out, rain down the corridor, take the objective they couldn't defend. She will never delete a carry in half a second. Draft her into immobile mids and corridor fights and she is a siege engine who steals Lords over walls. Draft her into Lolita, two divers, or a team with no frontline, and she's a child with an umbrella in a knife fight.

Play her if: the enemy mid is immobile (Yve, Pharsa, Odette, Gord), your jungler brings the burst, your frontline can zone for four seconds, and Lolita is nowhere in the draft.

Skip her if: Lolita is open or locked, the enemy stacks two blink-and-burst assassins, Belerick is their roam, or your team needs its mid laner to make the first pick. Take Kadita and bring your own weather — targeted, not forecast.
