Hylos MLBB Guide: HP Is the Mana Now (Season 42)
Season 42 reversed his passive: HP buys mana now, and the old Clock of Destiny build is dead. Hylos — the full kit, the new maths, builds and counters.
The dive comes the way dives always come: their Ling over the wall, blades out, straight at my Lesley — no dash, no Flicker, one second to live. Except I'm standing on her. Ring of Punishment is already lit, and every second he spends inside it his attack speed bleeds away in stacks while the ring's damage ramps up on him. He commits anyway. Law and Order — one empowered stab, knockback, stun — and then I lay Glorious Pathway down under my carry and she walks out at +60% speed on a road that heals her, while Ling stands in my aura doing arithmetic he doesn't like.
That's Hylos. Welcome in. He's the Grand Warden, the centaur guarding the Misty Mountains' fountain of immortality (Fandom's story) — and Season 42 reversed his oldest trick: his passive conversion now runs backwards. Trackers have him just under 49% win rate on a 0.3% pick rate. The game's biggest health bar, escorting in silence.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Fear first: Hylos never runs out. Every other tank has a vulnerable tempo — mana-gated, cooldown-gated, one spell from useless. Ring of Punishment is a *toggle*: it burns mana per second — and when the mana dies, Thickened Blood pays for casts with HP instead. The aura does not care which bar is funding it. Stand next to him and your attack speed stacks toward −60% while the damage you take from the ring climbs toward +40% (Fandom's stack table). He is not a combo. He is weather.
Love second: Glorious Pathway is the only reposition tool that moves all five of you and needs no target — a six-second road that heals him, slows enemies, makes him slow-immune, and turns an immobile carry into a car. Atlas moves the enemy team. Hylos moves *his*.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Paperwork first — this is where guides lie to you, and Hylos has the season's best trap.
Patch 2.2.16 (released 16 September 2026) — Hylos was ADJUSTED, and it's his passive, reversed. Fandom's Patch Notes 2.2.16, character for character: *"Removed Effect: Hylos gains 1.5 extra Max HP for every 1 extra Max Mana gained from equipment or emblems. New Effect: Hylos gains 1 extra Max Mana for every 2.5 Extra HP gained."* Moonton's note: the old effect was "underwhelming." VCGamers' Season 42 recap cross-checks the direction in one line: "the passive is reversed." The play consequence: mana items no longer double as health. Clock of Destiny, the stealth core of the old mana-tank build, is dead as a conversion play (MLBBHub) — every HP item now tops up the mana pool that keeps the Ring lit, so his item curve got simpler and earlier: buy health, get both bars. (Same patch: the Law and Order stab can now be aimed at turrets.) Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026): the documented list is a Kalea buff and nerfs to Aulus, Hirara, Eudora and Rafaela — no Hylos, and with no Fandom page for the sub-patch, any "secret Hylos tweak" stays [UNCONFIRMED]. Fandom's *hero page* still prints the retired passive text. The patch notes are newer. Patch notes win.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily, checked 21 Oct 2026): 49.0% WR, 0.3% pick, 0.3% ban, Medium difficulty. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026): B tier in Roam — 48.8% WR, 0.3% ban. - EliteDias (updated 15 Oct 2026): C tier, 49.0% WR. Pocket Gamer: S among Tanks (editorial outlier). - MLCounter.com: 49.12% / A tier — page months old, pre-patch; a fossil number, though its matchup table still gives direction.
The chorus: 48.8–49.0% — the flip simplified him more than it spiked him; no tracker publishes a clean pre/post split. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Hylos threads surfaced this season (two searches), so, labelled tracker/creator material only: MLBBHub's thesis is that he's a *five-target escort, not a one-target initiator* — and the classic-school sites (Zathong, mobilelegendsfire) still pair him with Revitalize. My tier verdict: B−. The spreadsheet says B-minus; the kit says he plays a full tier up into slow-stacked, stand-and-fight drafts, and a tier down the moment Karrie and Baxia both show up.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026 — passive excepted: there, the 2.2.16 patch notes overrule the page (see above). Base HP 2700→6900 (300 growth a level), mana 500→1900. - Passive — Thickened Blood: (Post-2.2.16) Hylos gains 1 extra Max Mana per 2.5 Extra HP. The old fallback survives (the notes removed only the conversion): when out of mana, he casts with HP instead. Two bars, one wallet. - Skill 1 — Law and Order: +50% Movement Speed (decaying fast) and his next Basic Attack within 3 seconds deals 300–550 (+80% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, knocks back and stuns for 1 second. Enhanced stab range: 2.5. Cooldown 12.0→8.0s; mana 80–130. His only hard CC — spend it like it matters. - Skill 2 — Ring of Punishment: The toggle. 100–300 (+20% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage per second to everyone near; each stack slows 4–6% and cuts Attack Speed 7.5–15% for 2.5s, up to 8 stacks, and each stack makes the victim take 5–20% more damage from the Ring itself. At 8 stacks: −32% movement, −60% attack speed, +40% ring damage. Drains 30–150 mana per second; recast cancels; it lasts until the mana does — then the HP wallet takes over. - Ultimate — Glorious Pathway: A road in the target direction for 6 seconds: enemies caught at the cast point are slowed 75% for 1 second; enemies on it are slowed 25% (45% at ult ranks 2–3); Hylos on the road is slow-immune and regenerates 3% of his Max HP per second (3/4/5% by rank); allies moving along it gain +60% Movement Speed (60/65/70%). Cooldown 40/36/32; mana 150/300/450.
Skill priority, my way: ultimate whenever offered, Ring of Punishment first (it's the hero), Law and Order second.
Combos
- "The Escort" (the standard): Ring of Punishment toggled on *before* you enter vision (MLBBHub: the attack-speed tax lands before they react) → walk the aura onto their carry → hold Law and Order until they commit or dash → stab, knockback, stun → Glorious Pathway laid through your team for the chase or the exit.
- "The River Express": Pathway down the river to the next objective — the whole rotation arrives at +60% while you regen 3–5% Max HP a second on the road. The fastest legal team commute in the game.
- "The Bodyguard's Veto": No combo at all — the discipline play. Ring on, body between the assassin and your carry, S1 *unspent*. The unspent stab is the peel; spend it on their tank and the dive window opens.
Rotation and map control
Level 1 (MLBBHub's script): take Ring of Punishment — leash damage and the attack-speed debuff for your jungler — then rotate *immediately* to whichever carry is most immobile. Seconds spent mid pre-4 are seconds your Lesley farms without a zoning body. Level 2: Law and Order arrives; the stab is commit and peel, never the opener. Turtle at 2:00 belongs to you: Ring plus the HP pool out-sustains the pit's aggro while your jungler smites — stand *on* the turtle, not behind it.
The spike: Cursed Helmet + Dominance Ice, ~9–11 minutes (MLBBHub). Post-flip, both items' HP also feeds his mana pool: the two-item Hylos holds an objective pit against a rotation and lives for his own to arrive. Mid/late: your job description is a postcode — inside Ring range of the enemy's highest-priority DPS, road under your carry. Toggle the Ring *off* between fights: an idle aura is a mana leak, and an empty bar means the next fight bills your HP.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
Battle spell: Flicker — MLBBHub's default; it manufactures the one thing he lacks, a surprise angle for the stab. Two live alternatives: Vengeance into two-plus-assassin dive drafts (MLBBHub), and Revitalize, the classic-school pairing (Zathong, mobilelegendsfire) — extra healing layered on the Pathway regen; heritage that still works, a tempo below Flicker. Roam blessing: Encourage (Zathong's team-buff set).
The locked slots (MLBBHub): Tough Boots (90% of games) → Cursed Helmet (burn = 1.2% of *your* Max HP per second plus a defense-shred curse — a second aura stacking with the Ring; mobilelegendsfire's core agrees) → Dominance Ice (Lifebane cuts nearby shields/regen to 60% while you stand there being enormous). Flex, by lobby: - Guardian Helmet — 1800 HP; post-flip that's also ~700 mana of Ring fuel, plus out-of-combat recovery (MLBBHub: a real sustain flex now). - Antique Cuirass — vs physical dive (Fanny, Hayabusa, Ling, Gusion): Deter stacks blunt the burst window. Radiant Armor — vs two-plus magic dealers. Athena's Shield — vs the one-shot mage opener. - Oracle — only with your own Estes, Rafaela or Angela healing you. Blade Armor — vs right-click hyper carries. Immortality — sixth, always; third, never (MLBBHub). - Clock of Destiny — the obituary: it was the stealth core when mana converted *into* HP. The conversion is gone; a mana item is now worth only its other passives. (MLBBHub's FAQ still lists it as core — boilerplate lagging its own guide.)
Emblem: Tank — and here the debate barely exists. MLBBHub's FAQ and mobilelegendsfire land on the same page: Vitality / Tenacity / Concussive Blast. Post-flip, Vitality's bonus HP is quietly also bonus mana.
How to counter him
Two tracker families, one theme: his health bar is huge, so don't fight the bar — fight the maths under it. MLBBHub's measured counters (counter data 17 Oct 2026): X.Borg +3.8pp, Zhuxin +3.7pp, Kimmy +3.3pp, then Yve, Cici, Karrie, Rafaela, Xavier, Cecilion, plus poke kit-matches Floryn, Diggie, Gord. MLCounter.com's matchup table (small samples, older page — direction, not gospel): Hylos wins just 41% vs Valir, 44% vs Baxia, 45% vs Kimmy, 49% vs Karrie. Karrie gets the honest nuance: sixth on Hub's measured list, raw matchup near even — but her Lightwheel Mark true damage plus a Demon Hunter Sword is the structural answer to a hero whose identity is a giant HP pool, and she kites the Ring forever. Baxia is the quiet executioner: anti-regen passive, %-HP damage, and magic resistance against an all-magic kit — MLBBHub's warning: never duel him inside your own aura.
Items (MLCounter): anti-heal first — Sea Halberd, Glowing Wand, Dominance Ice; %-HP damage — Demon Hunter Sword, Wishing Lantern; penetration — Malefic Roar, Genius Wand, Divine Glaive; slows to kite him — Corrosion Scythe, Ice Queen Wand. Play patterns: (1) Never brawl him long. Hit-and-run; a short trade is your win, a long one is his regen and his stacks. (2) Kill his team first — he's a bodyguard with no client if the carries die (MLCounter). (3) Don't cluster in the Ring — or fight him in jungle choke points, where it touches everyone. (4) CC him before the road: once the Pathway is down he's slow-immune on it and healing — the window is before the cast.
And who Hylos counters, measured (MLCounter's table): Odette 58%, Natalia 57%, Eudora 55% — divers and channelers who must stand inside the Ring to do their jobs — and he edges even Fanny, 51%. MLCounter's Grock table has the wall-man at just 43% vs Hylos — the fortress is Grock's worst matchup, verified from his side.
Mistakes everyone makes
MLBBHub's Hylos autopsy list — all still true at 49.0%: - "The Road to Nowhere": Opening a fight by ulting *into* the enemy team. The cast-point slow looks like an engage; it isn't — your team is four heroes behind you and you just spent your only escape walking into a 1v5. Pathway through your carries, not at their faces. - "The Stab Wasted on Armour": Law and Order-ing the enemy tank. He wanted to be there. Your one stun answers Fanny's re-cable and Hayabusa's shadow return — spent on Tigreal, it's a dead carry. - "The Leak": Leaving the Ring toggled on while walking between lanes. 150 mana a second is a teamfight budget, not a travel mode — arrive dry and the Ring bills your HP instead. - "The Chase Off the Road": Stepping off your own Pathway to chase a kill. Off the road: no slow immunity, no 3–5% regen, no plan. Stay on the road; let the road do the running. - "Naked HP into Karrie": Building pure health with no defense or anti-answer into Lightwheel true damage and a Demon Hunter Sword. You've built her a bigger damage number, not a wall. Same trap, wider: damage items (Hunter Strike, Blade of Despair, magic power) — MLBBHub: he scales off *items that burn by his HP*, not attack stats.
FAQ
- Did 2.2.16 really reverse his passive? Yes — Fandom's Patch Notes 2.2.16, verbatim: removed "1.5 extra Max HP for every 1 extra Max Mana"; new, "1 extra Max Mana for every 2.5 Extra HP gained." If a site still teaches mana-stacking, it's teaching last month's hero — Fandom's own hero page hasn't caught up either.
- Is Clock of Destiny still core? No. It was a stealth HP item under the old conversion. Now it's a mana item on a hero who makes mana by buying health. Buy health.
- Why does the Ring sometimes eat my HP? Because it's supposed to: when the mana bar empties, Thickened Blood pays skill costs from HP — the aura never turns off unless you toggle it. Manage the toggle.
- Can enemies use my Glorious Pathway? The speed is allies-only — but a road aimed at the enemy base during your retreat is an invitation. Cast it backward or sideways when running (MLBBHub's warning).
- Is he hard to play? Medium (MLBBHub). Moonton's ratings (via MLCounter): Durability 10, Control 8, Offense 2. The buttons are trivial. The game is road placement and stab discipline — where the Pathway goes decides what his other two skills are allowed to be.
Final verdict
Hylos in Season 42 is a B-minus spreadsheet wrapped around an A-grade idea: the tank who can't be resource-starved, because his health bar *is* his resource bar — and as of 2.2.16, his shopping list admits it. He doesn't start fights and he doesn't finish them. He makes his carry unkillable for the fight's whole length, then walks the whole team home at +60%.
Play him if: your draft parks immobile hyper-scalers behind you (Lesley, Beatrix, Karrie on *your* side), the enemy comp is slow-stacked or dive-happy, someone else brings the hard engage — and you enjoy winning fights by standing in them correctly.
Skip him if: Karrie, X.Borg or Baxia are staring from the enemy draft, or your team needs a roam who *starts* fights. Hylos with no initiator beside him is a fortress guarding an empty road.
