Grock MLBB Guide: He Brings His Own Walls (Season 42)
The only hero who edits the map mid-fight. Grock in Season 42: the revamped kit, wall craft, builds, and why a Johnson fears his postcode.
The Johnson has been circling for twenty seconds — you can hear the engine winding up in the river fog. He commits: full speed down the lane, an Odette riding shotgun, my backline scattering. I step into the road and raise Earthen Rampart across it. The car meets a wall that wasn't there a second ago and stops being a car. Then I Tectonic Charge into the wreckage — terrain, technically — and the explosion puts both passengers down, airborne, exactly where my team wanted them.
That's Grock. Welcome in. He's the Fortress Titan, last creation of the Ancient Ones, carrying a broken castle tower because the castle didn't survive (Fandom's story). Moonton rebuilt him in August 2025, Season 42 never touched him, and the trackers have him at ~47% win rate — a walking piece of level design most drafts walk straight past.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Fear first: Earthen Rampart is not a skill, it's zoning with a building permit. Grock summons a stone wall wherever he likes — the first hero in the game who could (Fandom trivia) — and it drags enemies toward him as it rises. His whole kit eats terrain: Mighty Swing only launches enemies who collide with an obstacle, and Tectonic Charge only explodes on one. Every other tank plays the map Moonton made. Grock brings his own.
Love second: defense is his damage stat. Bastion of Stone's empowered basic and Mighty Swing's collision bonus scale off his Total Physical Defense, so every armor item is also a weapon — and his model literally grows as the defense stacks. A late-game Grock isn't a wall with legs. He's a postcode.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Paperwork first — where guides lie to you.
Patch 2.2.16 (released 16 September 2026): Grock is not on the ranked adjustment list — Masha and Bruno revamps plus 21 adjustments (Kalea, Cici, Alpha, Kagura, Edith, Karina, Kaja, Aulus, Argus, Aldous, Lukas, Odette, Sun, Marcel, Hylos besides) — and blooing's complete roundup, read end to end, mentions him exactly once: in the Brawl-mode table, toned down. A mode rule, not a ranked change. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026): Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora and Rafaela nerfs (Kazuki Official) — no Grock, and with no Fandom page for the sub-patch, any "secret Grock tweak" stays [UNCONFIRMED]. His last documented ranked touch is an adjustment in 2.1.88 (VCGamers' Season 41 recap lists him under Adjust; MLBBHub: early base HP traded for late-game defense growth). The kit dates to the full 1.9.99 revamp (6 August 2025) — which is why every old guide is wrong (see the FAQ).
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily, checked 21 Oct 2026): 47.1% WR, 0.4% pick, 0.7% ban. MLBBDex (19 Oct 2026): C tier in Roam — 47.1% WR, 0.7% ban. - MLBB.io (counter page, current-patch data): 46.8% WR, C tier. EliteDias (15 Oct 2026): D tier among Tanks, 47.0%. - MLCounter.com: 54.24% / A tier — still documenting the pre-revamp kit under its dead names; stale, ignored here.
The chorus: 46.8–47.1% — the whole internet agrees he's below average, and it's measuring the average Grock. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Grock threads surfaced this season (two searches), so this is labelled tracker/creator material: MLBBHub's thesis is that he's a *facilitator, not a finisher* — a draft answer to a standing-still backline, useless as a peel bot. My tier verdict: C+. The spreadsheet says C. The wall says: into channel mages, parked marksmen and one surprised Johnson, he plays two tiers up — and into true damage, a tier down.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2819→6179. No mana bar — his resource is the passive's clock, and his collision course.
- Passive — Bastion of Stone: A Shield equal to 10% of his Max HP, and his next Basic Attack deals Physical Damage equal to 4 (+2% Total Physical Defense)% of the target's Max HP (capped at 300 + 20 per level vs non-heroes). Cooldown 18→12 seconds by level — and it recharges 200% faster near terrain (Fandom), so the wall-hugger DNA survived the revamp. While the shield is active he gains +30 (+6 per level)% extra Physical Defense, feeding the empowered basic a second time. Fandom's text also gives him control immunity while casting skills — his casts cannot be interrupted. One flagged disagreement: MLBBHub warns a late-2025 patch moved that immunity into the ult's charge only; Fandom's current page still prints the cast protection. Play by Fandom, don't litigate it mid-teamfight.
- Skill 1 — Mighty Swing: Strikes forward for 240–440 (+100% Extra Physical Attack) Physical Damage. Enemies with an obstacle behind them are knocked into it, launched airborne, and take extra damage equal to 4 (+2% Total Physical Defense)% of their Max HP. No obstacle: a polite knockback, no launch. Cooldown 8.0→6.0s.
- Skill 2 — Earthen Rampart: After a brief delay, summons a stone wall in the target area for 100–200 (+60% Extra Physical Attack), knocking enemies toward Grock as it rises. Recast cancels it early. Fandom's fine print is the craft: a wall rising under a unit displaces them and disrupts their skill — ally or enemy, even through CC immunity — because terrain displacement is an obstacle effect, not a control effect. Pharsa, Yve and Odette don't get to finish their sentences.
- Ultimate — Tectonic Charge: Charges forward, dealing 100 (+50% Total Physical Attack) to enemies in his path. On hitting terrain he stops and detonates: nearby enemies knocked airborne for 1 second, dealt 650–1050 (+300% Total Physical Attack). Hit no terrain and 50% of the cooldown is refunded — the revamp's forgiveness mechanic. Cooldown 55/50/45. Turrets count as terrain. So does his own wall.
Skill priority, my way: ultimate whenever offered, Mighty Swing first (the damage, and the only hard CC you can manufacture alone), Earthen Rampart second.
Combos
- "The Architecture" (the standard): Earthen Rampart behind the target → the rise drags them toward you → Mighty Swing with your own wall at their backs: airborne, plus the %-HP collision bonus → Bastion of Stone basic on the way down.
- "The Foreclosure": Wall seals the exit first, then Tectonic Charge *into* the wall, a turret, a jungle edge — anything solid. The explosion is the kill; a charge through open ground is a commute. MLBBHub's rule: no terrain at the end of the path, no knockup, no kill.
- "The Roadblock": Against Johnson, the wall goes across the driving line and the car stops existing as a threat (MLCounter's Johnson page literally lists object-summoners — "Diggie, Grock" — as his counters). Same placement cuts Fanny's cable route.
Rotation and map control
Level 1 (MLBBHub's script): don't go to lane — walk into the enemy jungle. Level-1 Grock can't duel, but he's a body and a wall: if your jungler wants the buff steal, your Rampart changes the fight's geometry; if they wave it off, guard your own blue. Level 2 is your spike: Mighty Swing ruins crab contests. Between 2:00 and 3:30, pick your objective: turtle-side, wall the pit's retreat corridor; gold-side, wall off the enemy jungler's exit.
The spike: Tough Boots + Dominance Ice, ~6–8 minutes (MLBBHub). Before it — especially since 2.1.88 trimmed his early HP — you're a zoning body whose ult catches loners. After it, the charge chain starts finishing kills. Positioning law (MLBBHub): stand slightly *behind* the engage point, not on it. Tectonic Charge needs runway, the wall goes *behind* the enemy — never between them and your carries — and the ult is the second commitment, not the first.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
Battle spell: Flicker. MLBBHub locks it, esports.gg agrees, and it buys wall angles no walking reaches — Flicker, then Rampart behind someone who thought the geometry was safe. Sprint exists only for a specific ambush-roam comp (MLBBHub). Roam blessing: Conceal.
The locked slots (MLBBHub + esports.gg agree): Tough Boots (Conceal) → Dominance Ice — Lifebane cuts nearby shields and regen to 60% while its defense feeds your %-HP damage twice over. MLBBDex's tracked builds round the core out with Athena's Shield and Chastise Pauldron. Flex, by lobby: - Antique Cuirass — the physical fork (MLBBHub's FAQ core three): Deter stacks blunt multi-hit physical combos; swap it in for Dominance Ice when there's no healing worth cutting (esports.gg). - Radiant Armor — vs sustained magic; his base magic defense is thin. - Oracle — only with your own Estes, Rafaela or Angela pumping heals into you. - Fleeting Time sixth when you're collecting ult takedowns. Immortality is the fallback when you're dying first every fight; Guardian Helmet when behind, for regen. Blade Armor vs auto-attack marksmen (esports.gg). - Blade of Despair — the one-shot school is heritage now (ONE Esports was clipping Reddit's damage-Grock Maniacs in the 1.6.66 era). MLBBHub's ruling: the explosion's +300% Total PA scaling makes it a real flex on EXP-lane Grock with a main tank behind him — a trap in the roam slot.
Emblem: Tank — with a slot-1 split. MLBBHub's FAQ runs Vitality / Tenacity / Concussive Blast; esports.gg runs Firmness / Wilderness Blessing / Concussive Blast (Temporal Reign as third-slot alt). My call: Vitality/Tenacity for roam — you're the engage, you eat the first CC chain.
How to counter him
Two tracker families, one verdict: ignore the defense, because his damage *is* his defense. MLBBHub's measured counters (FAQ): Alice, Esmeralda and Marcel. MLBBDex's Mythic list agrees on Alice and Esmeralda, adds Angela. The true-damage school (MLBBHub): Karrie — Lightwheel Mark is true damage, and true damage doesn't care what his passive scales off; X.Borg and Alpha push the same through his shield; Dyrroth's ult executes off missing HP, so a wounded Grock is a dead Grock. MLCounter.com's matchups (small samples, stale page — direction, not gospel): his worst days come against Lunox (41%), Hylos (43%), X.Borg (44%).
Items (MLCounter + MLBB.io): Malefic Roar to pierce the stack; %-HP damage — Demon Hunter Sword, Wishing Lantern; anti-heal — Sea Halberd, Glowing Wand, Dominance Ice; slows to kite (Corrosion Scythe, Ice Queen Wand). MLBB.io's defensive answer is armor of your own — Blade Armor, Antique Cuirass, Tough Boots. Play patterns: (1) Fight him in the open. No terrain behind you means Mighty Swing is a knockback, Tectonic Charge is a slide, and Grock is a big man holding a tower for decoration. (2) Blink the wall — Flicker hops Earthen Rampart clean (MLCounter). (3) Punish the clocks: ult 55s at rank 1, passive 18s early — after a spent charge he's a zoning body. (4) Don't channel in his postcode: within Rampart range, the wall cancels the show.
And who Grock counters, measured: MLBB.io has him strong into Odette, Silvanna and Layla; MLCounter's table gives him 55% vs Fanny (a wall in the cable line is a cancelled commute), 58% vs Franco, 59% vs Natalia; and Johnson wins just 43% against him (MLCounter's Johnson page, 376 games) — the wall is a traffic law the car cannot appeal.
Mistakes everyone makes
MLBBHub's Grock autopsy list — all still true at 47.1%: - "The Open-Field Charge": Ulting down an empty lane because the button glowed. No terrain at the end means no explosion, no airborne — just a backline sidestepping a very large, very committed pedestrian. - "The Friendly Wall": Dropping Earthen Rampart *in front of* your own team. The rise pulls enemies toward Grock — wall between you and them, and you've delivered their Lancelot into your marksman's lap. Behind the enemy, always. - "Turret Nostalgia": Fighting Karrie or Dyrroth under your own tower like the old passive still lives there. The revamp kept a faster passive recharge near terrain, not a fortress aura; true damage does the same maths everywhere. - "The Solo Expedition": Contesting the enemy jungle alone. No execute, no sustained DPS, no lockdown outside the ult — a Ling or Hayabusa who finds you off-cooldown kites you to death. - "First Into the Cleanse Comp": Opening fights into Diggie, Wanwan and two Purifies. Your knockup is the product; if the draft bought three ways to delete it, you're the third engage — let Atlas or Tigreal burn the answers first.
FAQ
- Why do old guides call his skills Power of Nature and Wild Charge? Because they are old. The 1.9.99 revamp (August 2025) renamed the whole kit — Bastion of Stone, Mighty Swing, Earthen Rampart, Tectonic Charge. Any page still teaching the charge-up swing teaches a hero who no longer exists.
- Does the wall really stop Johnson's car? Yes. Full Throttle detonates on the first enemy hero or *obstacle* it meets, and a summoned wall is an obstacle with an attitude. MLCounter's Johnson counter text reads "heroes that can summon objects (Diggie, Grock)" — his win rate into Grock: 43%.
- Can I cancel Earthen Rampart early? Yes — recast it. Do it the moment the fight moves or the wall starts protecting the wrong team; a wall your carry has to walk around is an enemy item you built for free.
- Is damage Grock still a thing? As a roam build, no. As an EXP-lane flex with Blade of Despair feeding the +300% ult scaling, MLBBHub documents it as real — a tier below the tank build, a throw in the roam slot.
- Is he hard to play? MLBBHub rates him Medium; Moonton's design ratings (via MLBBDex) give Durability 9, Difficulty 6. The buttons are simple. The game is architecture: where the wall goes decides what his other two skills are allowed to be.
Final verdict
Grock in Season 42 is a C-tier spreadsheet with an S-tier party trick: the only hero who edits the map mid-fight, buried by numbers earned by players using the wall as a door instead of a weapon. The kit isn't the problem. The geometry homework is.
Play him if: the enemy draft parks its damage in one place — channel mages (Pharsa, Yve, Odette), immobile marksmen (Layla, Bruno), a healer the team stands around — or a Johnson is warming up in their jungle, and your carry profits from a wall in the right postcode.
Skip him if: the enemy comp is true damage and cleanses (Karrie, X.Borg, Dyrroth, Diggie), or your team needs a peel roamer — Grock doesn't extract anyone from a bad position. He just makes the position worse, beautifully, for the other team.
