Gord MLBB Guide: Lock, Then Burn (Season 42)
A 52.9% win rate on the professor whose laser only works on people standing still. Gord, honestly: the four-hit true-damage proc, the sideways beam, and the assassins who delete him.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Lord fight, minute twelve, and my Atlas lands the set he's been fishing for all game — four of them chained in a neat row. I don't fire the laser at anybody. I fire it past the flank, at empty grass, then drag the joystick sideways. The beam sweeps across the row like a lighthouse with a grudge, and because I opened with the orb stun and the circle, the true-damage proc is already ticking inside the channel. Their Barats — a walking wall all game — melts standing up. That's Gord at his best: not a duel, an execution with paperwork.
That is Gord, the Professor of the Mystics: dean of the Icarus School, Valir's old teacher, and the man who read the forbidden book, tried to forge a pure mystic body, and nearly tore himself apart — he still wears it, half red, half blue (Fandom's story). He rides a floating board instead of walking, like a professor too important for legs. Feared, because a full Mystic Gush channel on a standing target is a delete button, and his passive pays true damage that laughs at magic defense. Loved, because sweeping that beam across a teamfight never gets old. The catch: the kit pretends he has mobility. He has none — no dash, no blink, a 240 movement speed and a dream.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Patch paperwork first. Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) did not touch Gord — confirmed two ways: absent from the verified adjustment list, and blooing's complete 2.2.16 roundup, read end to end, never mentions him — ranked, Classic or either Brawl column. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026): the documented list (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) has no Gord — any claimed tweak stays [UNCONFIRMED]. His last documented touch is Patch 2.1.95 (MLBBHub's patch-notes record: passive base and ultimate base trimmed). Paperwork trap: Fandom's own Gord patch-history page stops at 1.6.26 — it tells you none of this.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily; checked 21 Oct 2026): 52.9% win rate, 0.6% pick, 0.6% ban — Mid Lane, rated Easy. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026, patch 2.2.16): A tier — 52.8% win rate, 0.6% pick, 0.6% ban in Mid. - MLBB.io (October 2026 insights): files him as a Hidden Gem — 52.4% in Mid at Mythical Glory+ over the sampled day, barely picked. - MLCounter.com (page updated Jun 2026): 54.65% and an A badge — an older dataset; noted, not averaged in. - Pocket Gamer (tier list, 17 Oct 2026): D tier among Mages — the editorial outlier at the table, as it often is.
The chorus: 52.8–52.9% win rate where the data is fresh, on a 0.6% pick rate. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Gord threads surfaced — tracker/creator material only. MLBBHub's thesis is the honest one: "a situational counter-pick mid," playable in exactly two draft shapes. Creator heritage agrees he was no meme: ONE Esports once called him "the most powerful laner you can face at mid" off his MPL PH run — old form, same identity. My tier verdict: A-. The A paperwork is real on both live desks; the minus is the draft window — two or more dash/invisibility assassins, or a Lolita shield parked in front of him, and the professor is lecturing an empty room.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2478→4928, Mana 500→1900, Physical Attack 110→196, Physical Defense 13→69, Magic Defense 15→50, Movement Speed 240, basic attack range 4.5. Specialty: Poke/Burst. Ratings (via MLCounter): Durability 1, Offense 7, Control 8. - Passive — Mystic Favor: After Gord hits an enemy 4 times with basic attacks or skills in a short window, his next attack on that target deals an extra 140 (+60% Total Magic Power) True Damage and slows them 20% for 1 second (the slow stacks up to 2 times). Injunction and Gush ticks stack it fast — the proc is a finisher, not a bonus (MLBBHub). - Skill 1 — Mystic Projectile: Gord conjures an orb that bounces along a straight line in the target direction and explodes on the first enemy hit: 270–495 (+80% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, stunning and revealing them for 1 second. Cooldown 10.0→7.5s, mana 90–140. It does not ricochet off walls (MLBBHub). The only lockdown in the kit; everything else pays off this stun. - Skill 2 — Mystic Injunction: An energy field at the target area dealing 55–105 (+16% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage every 0.3 seconds, up to 13 times. Cooldown 8.0→6.0s, mana 55–105. A damage pool, not a burst — it only pays on targets who cannot or will not walk out. - Ultimate — Mystic Gush: A channelled beam dealing 110–210 (+32% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage every 0.2 seconds, up to 16 times — steered with the joystick while Gord stands perfectly still. It can only be interrupted by airborne, frozen, suppressed or transformed crowd control (Fandom) — ordinary stuns do not stop it. Cooldown 44/40/36s, mana 150–190. He can also cast battle spells during the beam (ONE Esports' patch notes) — Flicker mid-channel is legal.
Skill priority, my way: Mystic Injunction at level 1 (MLBBHub: the cheap zone clears the first wave; save the orb for heroes), ultimate at 4/8/12, then Mystic Projectile maxed first (damage up, cooldown down to 7.5s), Injunction second.
Combos
- "Lock, Then Burn" (the signature): your setter — or a point-blank Mystic Projectile — lands the stun → Mystic Injunction under the rooted target → Mystic Gush across them. The circle's ticks stack Mystic Favor while the beam channels, so the proc lands inside the channel as the finisher (MLBBHub's framing: the select screen says Poke/Burst; the real specialty is "Lock, then Burn").
- "The Sideways Sweep": fire the beam past the target's flank, at empty ground, then rotate the joystick across their position. A forward-fired beam gets sidestepped after two ticks; a sideways sweep tracks through the sidestep and covers the escape angle (MLBBHub). Forward-fire is the tell of a new Gord.
- "The Lane Kill": walk in close — where the orb can't be reacted to — Mystic Projectile stun → Injunction under them → basics and the Favor proc close out a mid laner already below half (MLBBHub). The stun keeps them in the field; the field feeds the proc.
Rotation and map control
Mid Lane is home — every desk files him there: Injunction zones the wave, the orb threatens the opposing mid, and he shoves and rotates from safety. The lane rule (MLBBHub): the orb is for heroes, not minions. Spammed at max range it telegraphs itself; hold it, walk up on a pushed-forward laner, and cash the stun where it can't be dodged.
The mid game runs on one checkpoint: Enchanted Talisman plus Glowing Wand or Genius Wand, around minutes 6–8 (MLBBHub). Before Talisman he runs dry after three fights; after it, the kit cycles on cooldown. Objective play is his tax: cast Injunction on the objective, not at the enemy (MLBBHub) — pool the Lord pit or the tower they're defending, and they eat thirteen ticks or surrender the ground.
Positioning is the whole late game. Stand at maximum beam range with a wall or your own tower behind you (MLBBHub): the wall denies the behind-you angle, the tower punishes the commit. How far up you stand is support-conditional: behind an Atlas or Khufra their lockdown buys the full channel; behind a Rafaela or Estes, nobody holds anyone still — play further back and fire for poke (MLBBHub).
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The locked start (MLBBHub's core, echoed by 1v9 and Zathong's pro build): Enchanted Talisman → Glowing Wand → Ice Queen Wand. Talisman is the engine: cooldown reduction plus mana, ending his rationing problem. Second-slot fork (MLBBHub): Glowing Wand vs HP-stackers and heal comps (Scorch burns %Max HP; Lifebane halves their healing and shields) or Genius Wand vs teams already buying Athena's Shield and Oracle (its magic-defense shred stacks three times, so the beam's later ticks hit a softened target). Ice Queen Wand is the glue: its slow on every skill keeps targets inside the pool and the beam — and stacks with Mystic Favor's own slow. Late: Divine Glaive for stacked magic defense (1v9, DuniaGames), Holy Crystal as the raw-power capstone (Zathong). Boots split: Magic Shoes (cooldown — 1v9, Zathong) vs Demon Shoes (mana — Zathong's solo school, DuniaGames). Talisman makes the mana pair optional. One trap, named by MLBBHub: Blood Wings second. If you cannot kill anyone, a bigger health bar only delays the inevitable. Shield last, if at all. Emblem: Mage — Inspire / Bargain Hunter / Impure Rage (MLBBHub) — Bargain Hunter pulls the Talisman spike earlier; Impure Rage procs off his constant tick damage. Battle spell: Flicker, the desk standard (MLBBHub) — and never Flicker *forward*: it is the only escape on a zero-mobility hero, and it works mid-beam if a dive arrives during the channel. Sprint is the minority school (Zathong's co-equal pick) against walk-up pressure rather than blink assassins; Aegis is the cautious alt (Jollymax).
How to counter him
MLBBHub's measured podium (counter data updated 19 Oct 2026): Natalia +3.4 percentage points, Helcurt +2.8pp, Ling +2.6pp — then Benedetta and Harley. The pattern is one sentence: invisibility and dashes reach a stationary channel, and one burst rotation deletes a Durability-1 mage (MLBBHub). MLCounter's table (older — direction only) prices the rest: 41% vs Lolita (230 games, his worst), 42% vs Yin (309), 47% vs Gusion (288), 48% vs Hayabusa (477), 49% vs Dyrroth (409). - The Lolita disagreement, printed honestly: MLBBHub files Lolita among the walk-at-him frontlines Gord wants to see — she must enter the pool to play. MLCounter's measured table makes her his worst matchup, and its skill notes say why: her shield blocks Mystic Gush outright (and eats the orb). Measured over theory: treat her as a veto. - Interrupt rules: only airborne, frozen, suppressed or transformed effects stop Mystic Gush (Fandom) — don't waste ordinary stuns on the channel; walk sideways out of the beam instead (MLCounter). Purify cleanses the Projectile stun (MLCounter) — no stun, no pool, no beam. - Items: magic defense — Athena's Shield, Radiant Armor, Oracle (MLCounter) — plus Winter Crown to decline the combo window. Limit: Mystic Favor's proc is true damage — Radiant Armor still eats it at full value. - Play patterns: he has no escape once Flicker is down — gank the Flicker, then gank the man (MLBBHub). Never queue in a straight line down a choke: the orb travels one, and the beam sweeps it. Who he counters is the mirror image: comps that must walk forward and stand together. MLBBHub's pick conditions are the immobile frontlines — Fredrinn, Barats, Ruby, Phoveus, Minotaur, Gatotkaca, Johnson, Grock — heroes who must enter melee to start a fight and eat the full pool doing it. MLCounter has him beating Alucard 58% (279 games), Johnson 55%, Yve 54%, Layla 53%, Miya 52%.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The Max-Range Prayer": Opening fights with Mystic Projectile from maximum range. Long travel time, visible cast animation — competent players see the orb leave your hand and walk around it (MLBBHub). The orb is a point-blank confirmation, or a brush shot.
- "The Assassin Beam": Pressing Mystic Gush on a Fanny, Ling or Hayabusa who isn't already stunned. Their mobility outruns the beam's rotation while the channel roots *you* (MLBBHub). Beam the second-priority target instead: the immobile mage, the standing marksman.
- "The Angle Flicker": Burning Flicker to reposition for a prettier ultimate angle (MLBBHub). A mediocre beam with Flicker in pocket beats a perfect beam that trades your life for a tank's health bar.
- "The Forgotten Proc": Casting S1, S2 and ult as three separate events and never cashing Mystic Favor (MLBBHub). Four hits on ONE target, then the next hit is true damage — the proc is the finisher your raw numbers can't close without.
- "Blood Wings Second": Buying the shield at minute eight because it feels safe (MLBBHub). Talisman, boots, Blood Wings and zero amplified damage: you will outlive the teamfight and lose it.
FAQ
- What did Patch 2.2.16 change for Gord? Nothing — verified-list absence plus blooing's full roundup read end to end (zero mentions, Brawl included). Last documented touch: Patch 2.1.95's passive/ultimate base trim (MLBBHub). Any claimed 2.2.16a tweak is [UNCONFIRMED].
- Why does his beam hurt my tank through Radiant Armor? Mystic Favor: four skill hits on one target and the next attack pays 140 (+60% Total MP) True Damage — true damage ignores magic defense entirely (Fandom). The beam's ticks stack the proc mid-channel.
- Can I stun him out of Mystic Gush? Not with an ordinary stun — Fandom limits interrupts to airborne, frozen, suppressed or transformed effects. Step sideways out of the beam, or bring one of the four.
- Can he really Flicker during his own ultimate? Yes — battle spells are castable during Mystic Gush (ONE Esports' patch notes), and Flicker doesn't cancel the channel (Jollymax). It's the dive answer: beam, blink sideways, keep sweeping.
- Why Ice Queen Wand on a hero with a built-in slow? The slows stack and the jobs differ: Favor's slow is a finisher's tag, Ice Queen's is a leash — it holds targets inside the Injunction pool and under the beam for more ticks (MLBBHub).
Final verdict
Gord in Season 42 is a turret with a PhD: 52.8–52.9% win rates on both live desks, an A from MLBBDex, a Hidden Gem tag at Mythical Glory+ — on a 0.6% pick rate, because the draft has to agree first. Given a frontline that holds people still and an enemy that must walk at him, he is the most oppressive area mage in the game: a stun, a damage pool, a sweeping beam, and true damage sprinkled through all of it. Given two assassins with his name on their list and nobody to peel, he's a stationary lecture. The kit hasn't changed; the lobbies decide.
Play him if: the enemy frontline is immobile (Fredrinn, Barats, Minotaur, Gatotkaca, Grock), your team drafts a setter (Atlas, Khufra, Tigreal, Franco) to hold targets inside the beam, and you have the patience to farm the Talisman spike and fire sideways.
Skip him if: two or more of Natalia, Helcurt, Ling, Fanny, Hayabusa or Benedetta are showing, Lolita is open, or your team has no lockdown and expects the mid to peel himself. Take Cyclops and bring a loop that moves. Gord doesn't do mobile. He does *geography*.
