Gatotkaca MLBB Guide: Get Hit, Get Paid (Season 42)

A 45.3% win rate on the tank who converts every lost hit point into armour and heals by punching back. Gatotkaca, honestly: the Rage math, the leap telegraph, and the true damage that voids him.

Why he's feared (and loved)

Lord pit, minute eleven, both teams dancing at the river's edge. My Pharsa needs four quiet seconds to set up, the enemy knows it, and their whole front line is walking at her in a neat little group — so I do the only thing Gatotkaca has ever known how to do. I jump. Not away. Onto them. The circle blooms, the fringe players get dragged to the centre like the pit is collecting a debt, everyone goes airborne, and while they're still falling I sprint through the carry with Unbreakable and make her spend the next second and a half punching the one man in the game who gets paid to be punched.

That is Gatotkaca, the Mighty Legend — Bima's son out of the Arcapada universe, the wayang knight who died once and came back reforged with bones of steel (Fandom's story). Feared, because his passive is a moral argument: the more you hit him, the more armour he grows and the harder his one big punch heals. Loved, because nobody else turns "please focus me" into an actual strategy. The catch is on the ultimate: a huge, visible circle — against anyone awake, with a dash up, it lands on empty grass. Gatotkaca doesn't surprise you. He dares you to stand in the wrong place together.

Season 42 viability: the honest read

Patch paperwork first. Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) did not touch Gatotkaca — confirmed two ways: absent from the verified adjustment list (Masha/Bruno revamps + 22 adjustments), and blooing's complete 2.2.16 roundup, read end to end, never mentions him — ranked, Classic or Brawl. Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026): the documented list (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) has no Gatotkaca — any claimed tweak stays [UNCONFIRMED]. His last documented change is Patch 2.1.88, a small base HP and physical defense nudge (MLBBHub, citing the patch notes).

The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily; checked 21 Oct 2026): D tier — 45.2% win rate, 0.58% pick, 0.3% ban; Roam and EXP, rated Medium; measured counters X.Borg, Lesley, Uranus. - MLBB.io (data updated 20 Oct 2026): D tier, dropped from C — 45.3% win rate, 0.6% pick; counters X.Borg, Lesley, Aldous. Its 15 tracked builds run Revitalize in 60%, Tank emblem in most. - MLCounter.com (page updated ~Jun 2026): 41.29% win rate under an A badge — an older dataset, noted not averaged; its counter-item file is direction only.

The chorus: 45.2–45.3% win rate on both live desks, D tier on both, almost nobody banning him. Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame threads surfaced — tracker/creator only. MLBBHub's thesis: "Gatotkaca does not create picks. He creates teamfights."

My tier verdict: C+. The D paperwork is real — but it's the price of a partner-dependent kit being solo-queued. Beside a setup hero, into a grouped draft, he plays two tiers above that letter; alone against dashes and Purify, the letter is generous.

The full kit: what every button does

All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2629→5569, Physical Attack 128→228, Physical Defense 10→58, Magic Defense 15→50, Attack Speed 1.02→1.25, Movement Speed 260, basic attack range 1.4, no mana pool. Moonton's ratings (via MLBB.io): Offense 3 / Durability 9 / Control 9 / Difficulty 4. - Passive — Steel Bones: Physical Defense equal to 2% of his lost HP, up to 100 (0.02 per lost point — cap at 5,000 HP lost; older guides printing 200 are stale). He gains 5 Rage (max 100) per 300 damage taken, calculated before reduction. Above 25 Rage, his next basic attack is enhanced: consumes ALL Rage, short-dashes him to the target (Fandom's note, Patch 1.7.82), deals (+100% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage plus (+200% Total Magic Power) and roughly 8–11 × consumed Rage (level-scaled) Magic Damage, and heals him 8 × consumed Rage HP. Rage decays fast out of combat — a use-it-or-lose-it paycheck. - Skill 1 — Blast Iron Fist: Slams the ground toward the target direction for 200–300 (+150% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, leaving a shattered zone for ~3.5 seconds: enemies inside take 100–150 (+20% Total Magic Power) every 0.5 seconds (up to 7 ticks) and are slowed 30%. Cooldown 8.0→6.0s, 50% spell-vamp ratio. Melee heroes can't walk around him for free. - Skill 2 — Unbreakable: He channels (full charge ~1.2s; overcharge ~3.75s more), then sprints in the target direction — distance scaling with channel time — dealing 200–300 (+100% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage and taunting every enemy on the path: forced to basic-attack him for 1.5 seconds, skills locked out (Fandom). Cooldown 12.0→10.0s; cancelling cuts the remaining cooldown by 50% — cancel early on a miss. - Ultimate — Avatar of the Guardian: He leaps to the target location and lands for 500–1000 (+300% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage, knocking nearby enemies airborne for 1 second; enemies near the centre stay airborne longer, and fringe enemies are pulled to the centre. Control-immune during the leap, untargetable while descending (Fandom). Cooldown 54/50/46s. A visible indicator and a windup: a follow-up tool, not a cold opener. Skill priority, my way: Blast Iron Fist at level 1 (MLBBHub's roam route) and maxed first — zone, slow and trade tool in one; Avatar of the Guardian at 4/8/12; Unbreakable second.

Combos

  • "The Second Punch" (the teamfight script): let your setup land first — an Angela bind, a Chou knock-up, a Mathilda pull, a Xavier stun (MLBBHub's pairings) — then Avatar of the Guardian onto the frozen group, Unbreakable through whoever Flickered out, and Blast Iron Fist under the pile so survivors eat the slow zone while your enhanced basic cashes the Rage.
  • "The Bodyguard": when a diver lands on your carry, half-channel Unbreakable straight through him (MLBBHub's example is a Hayabusa mid-dive): the taunt forces his basics onto you for 1.5s, your carry walks away, and every hit he wastes on you is armour and Rage. The taunt is a peel button that also engages — most players use half of it.
  • "The Low-HP Cash-In": MLBBHub's core read — correct Gatotkaca fights end with him near 15% HP, passive armour maxed, Rage bar full, and ONE enhanced basic that heals him back toward half. Don't panic-recall at 30%: if the bar is full and the exit is covered, take the punch first.

Rotation and map control

Roam is the primary home; EXP is the second desk (MLBBHub's guide is a roam guide; MLBB.io files Roam and EXP Lane). The roam opening is scripted (MLBBHub): Blast Iron Fist at level 1, gift the blue buff to your jungler, mid wave by 0:20, ward the enemy jungle entrance by 1:00 — he has no escape, so he rotates from warded bushes or dies. The level-2 gank goes to the lane your carry is losing: Unbreakable as a gap-closer, not a taunt, Blast Iron Fist on the retreat angle. And never burn Flicker to engage before level 4 — it's his only exit until Immortality (MLBBHub).

The mid game runs on one checkpoint: Cursed Helmet + Thunder Belt, around minutes 9–11 (MLBBHub). Before them he is a CC bot; after them the helmet's burn ticks off his own HP pool, Thunder Belt's true damage scales off his total defenses, and he survives his own Unbreakable channel. Positioning rule (MLBBHub): the fight happens on top of Gatotkaca — side angles, chokepoints, pit mouths — and when he isn't engaging, he stands on his carry.

Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)

The locked core (MLBBHub): Tough Boots → Cursed Helmet → Thunder Belt → Dominance Ice. Tough Boots over Warrior Boots by default (uptime over a small armour bonus); Warrior only into auto-attack comps (MLBBHub). Fifth slot by draft (MLBBHub): Athena's Shield vs magic burst, Antique Cuirass vs physical skill comps, Dominance Ice earlier vs heal-and-shield teams. Sixth: Immortality default; Queen's Wings when a peel support lets him dive deep (its below-40% trigger is his passive's favourite address). Older schools (MuMu, Zathong) agree on the Tough Boots/Dominance Ice/Antique Cuirass skeleton; Zathong's team-buff set adds Guardian Helmet. Refereed traps: Blade Armor — the older default (Zathong, MuMu) that MLBBHub explicitly benches: reflect is redundant beside an armour-conversion passive, a burn aura and a true-damage belt. And magic-power items (Glowing Wand, Holy Crystal, Clock of Destiny): the ratios say Total Magic Power, but MLBBHub's verdict is that defense buys more damage through Thunder Belt than MP ever pays back. Emblem: Tank — Vitality / Tenacity with a tier-3 split: Brave Smite (MLBBHub's FAQ; SabayLok agrees) vs Concussive Blast, which leads MLBB.io's 15 tracked builds. Battle spell — a three-way split, refereed: Vengeance is MLBBHub's FAQ pairing and SabayLok's pick (damage reduction plus reflect, mid-taunt, is his passive's best friend). Revitalize is what tracked builds actually run — 60% of MLBB.io's 15. Flicker is the escape school (GamerHub's pick) — his only true exit.

How to counter him

Two live desks agree on the headline names: X.Borg and Lesley sit on both counter lists (MLBBHub's measured top three adds Uranus; MLBB.io's FAQ adds Aldous, whose stacks eventually punch through any armour). Then MLBBHub's do-not-lock list — really the counter section in a draft hat: - True damage voids the identity. Karrie above all — her %HP true damage ignores the lost-HP armour conversion, so the tankier he feels, the faster he melts (MLBBHub; VCGamers' counter file agrees, adding Demon Hunter Sword, Malefic Roar penetration and anti-heal — Sea Halberd, Dominance Ice — against the enhanced-basic heal). - Cleanse and immunity delete the kit. Diggie is the veto: Time Journey makes his team CC-immune, and a taunt plus an airborne that never land is just a man jumping (MLBBHub). Purify answers the taunt too. - Untargetability and shred. Lunox's Chaos form is invulnerable and phases through the taunt (MLBBHub); Baxia's passive cuts his healing and shields, neutering the sustain loop (MLBBHub); Dyrroth shreds the stacked defense, and Yin isolates him where an area taunt protects nobody (VCGamers). - Play patterns: spread out — the leap only pays on grouped targets, and a dodged circle is a 54-second hole in his game (MLCounter's file: poke from range, Flicker the ultimate). Who he counters is the mirror image: basic-attack carries and divers who must touch him — a taunted marksman feeds his passive while his team shoots free, and a diver whose dive ends inside Unbreakable range has spent his engage punching armour (MLBBHub's peel read). He is also the natural answer to all-physical drafts (MuMu's guide note) — a physical-defense-only passive is a specialist's weapon. Grouped, immobile teams at objective pits are his dinner reservation.

Mistakes everyone makes

  • "The Diggie Jump": Ulting into a ready Time Journey. The airborne gets eaten, you land alone in five enemies, and your longest cooldown is gone (MLBBHub's named frustration). Bait the immunity with an Unbreakable first — then jump.
  • "The Execute Leap": Spending Avatar of the Guardian to finish one 10%-HP runner. It's a teamfight-ender on a 54-second rank-1 cooldown, not an execute (MLBBHub). Walk up and let the enhanced basic do it.
  • "The Rushed Channel": Tap-casting Unbreakable at dash heroes, or full-channelling it in plain sight. MLBBHub warns the taunt has paid for channel time since Patch 2.1.40 — rushed casts barely hold anyone, and a visible full channel against Fanny, Ling or Saber is a dash invitation. Cancel early when it misses: half the remaining cooldown comes back.
  • "The Mage Shopping": Building Holy Crystal or Clock of Destiny because the tooltips say Magic Power (MLBBHub). The ratios never out-pay defense-fed Thunder Belt procs, and Glowing Wand is the worst common slot in his builds.
  • "The Blind Engage": Opening a fight — or leaping — with no vision on the enemy assassin (MLBBHub). He has no escape; an unseen Hayabusa or Lancelot for 15 seconds means patience, from a warded bush, at an angle — not a straight leap onto a frontline that sidesteps the circle.

FAQ

  • Why does he get tankier the harder he's hit? Steel Bones: every lost HP point adds 0.02 Physical Defense, up to +100, and every 300 damage taken banks 5 Rage toward the enhanced basic that heals him back (Fandom). Hitting Gatotkaca is paying Gatotkaca — unless your damage is true damage, which skips the armour entirely.
  • Can the ultimate be dodged? Yes — visible indicator, real windup (MLBBHub). Dashes, Flicker and Purify all leave the circle empty; that's why desks pair him with a setup hero.
  • Does Purify or Diggie answer the taunt? Yes — the taunt is a basic-level control (Fandom); cleanses remove it, and Diggie's Time Journey immunity stops the taunt and the airborne entirely (MLBBHub).
  • Roam or EXP lane? Roam first (MLBBHub's guide is the roam route; the level-2 gank and the peel are the job). EXP is the real second desk (MLBB.io) — slower, level-fed, same script.
  • What did Patch 2.2.16 change for Gatotkaca? Nothing — verified-list absence plus blooing's roundup read end to end, Brawl columns included. Last documented change: Patch 2.1.88's base HP/defense nudge (MLBBHub). Any claimed 2.2.16a tweak is [UNCONFIRMED].

Final verdict

Gatotkaca in Season 42 is a D-tier spreadsheet wrapped around an A-tier teamfight button: 45.2–45.3% win rates on both live desks because solo queue keeps asking him to engage alone, into dashes. Played as designed — second engage, behind a partner's setup, into a grouped draft, at 20% HP and enjoying it — he is the most honest frontline in the game: the fight happens where he lands, the carry punches him because she has to, and the punch heals him. Played as a cold opener, he's a weather forecast the enemy walks out of.

Play him if: your team already brings hard CC to freeze fights first, the enemy comp is physical-leaning or grouped and immobile, you have a hypercarry who wants a bodyguard, and you're patient enough to leap second, not first.

Skip him if: Karrie, Diggie, Lunox or Baxia are showing (MLBBHub's bench list — answer at least three of the four or walk away), the enemy backline is all dashes and Purify, or your team is pick-off heavy and needs picks, not teamfights. Take Atlas and bring a set that doesn't ask permission. Gatotkaca doesn't make plays out of nothing. He makes them *on top of himself*.
