Barats MLBB Guide: Eat First, Ask Later (Season 42)
A 51.8% win rate on a dinosaur that eats the enemy carry whole and spits him into a wall. Barats, honestly: the Big Guy stack math, the wall-spit rules, and the melters who delete him.
Why he's feared (and loved)
First Turtle, minute two. I roll up to the river already enormous — ten Big Guy stacks from the buff camps, Detona huge, my basic attacks gone full Trample. The enemy Claude thinks the pit mouth is his: he dashes in for the steal. He never gets to regret it properly. Detona charges, swallows him whole — suppression, no Purify argument, no exit — and spits him into the pit wall. One second of stun, an explosion, my team already swinging.
That is Barats, the Dino Rider — a lazy Politan kid who stole a treasure map, got lost in the desert, and was saved by a baby lizard he named Detona (Fandom's story). Years later he found Detona again — grown huge, wearing a bounty — and chose the friend over the money. Feared, because his ultimate is the rudest sentence in the game: eaten, carried, and redecorated against a wall. Loved, because nothing is funnier than watching the enemy carry get used as a projectile. The catch: the dinosaur is the hero. At zero stacks Barats is a small, slow rider with a big appetite and no dash — the stacks are not a bonus, they are the entire animal.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Patch paperwork first. Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) did not change Barats in ranked — confirmed two ways: absent from the verified adjustment list (Masha/Bruno revamps + 22 adjustments), and blooing's complete roundup, read end to end, mentions him only in the Brawl-mode "toned down" column — a mode footnote, no ranked numbers. Patch 2.2.16a: the documented list (Kalea buff; Aulus, Hirara, Eudora, Rafaela nerfs) has no Barats — [UNCONFIRMED] for any claimed tweak. Same label for the Advanced Server noise: a Barats buff in the 2.2.22a advanced notes (MLBBHub, 30 Sep 2026) and 2.2.26 test experiments reverted in 2.2.28 (gamingonphone) — test server only, none of it live. His kit is the 1.8.47 rework; the last small live touch in the record is Patch 1.8.20's mana buff (Fandom notes: S1 40–80 → 25–50, S2 90–140 → 70–100) — still the live numbers.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton figures): - MLBBHub (refreshed daily; checked 21 Oct 2026): 51.8% win rate, 0.7% pick rate, 4.0% ban rate — EXP Lane and Jungle; measured counters X.Borg, Yve, Gord. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026, patch 2.2.16): A tier, EXP · Jungle — 51.7% win rate, 0.7% pick, 4.0% ban; "performance drops in long games, and X.Borg counters it very clearly." - MLCounter (page updated 22 Aug 2026): 49.31% and a B badge — an older dataset; noted, not averaged in. Its matchups below are direction only.
The chorus: 51.7–51.8% win rate everywhere current, and both live desks agree on the shape — an early-game bully who peaks before minute 10 and dips late (MLBBHub's phase analysis says the same). Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Barats threads surfaced — tracker/creator only; the creator read (MLBBHub): "Barats is not a blind comfort pick. He is a draft answer." My tier verdict: A-. The A paperwork is real on both desks; the minus is the clock and the draft — two or more tank melters, or a game past 16 minutes, turns the dinosaur into luggage.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2350→5765, Mana 500→1900, Physical Attack 135→207, Physical Defense 18→80, Magic Defense 15→50, Movement Speed 268, basic attack range 1.7. Ratings (via MLCounter): Durability 10, Offense 3, Control 9. - Passive — Big Guy: Detona gains a stack for 12 seconds each time Barats or Detona damages an enemy with a skill (max 10). Every stack grows Detona's model and grants 4–10 Hybrid Defense (scaling with Detona's Welcome's rank — 40 total at ult level 0 → 100 at level 3) plus 5% Resilience, 50% at full stacks. At 10 stacks his basics become Trample: an area stomp dealing (+140% Total Physical Attack) (+3.5% Total HP) Physical Damage, slowing 40% for 0.2s, and each Trample hit refreshes the stack timer. Stacks decay gradually once the 12 seconds lapse (~0.8s per stack, Fandom's note); attack range grows at high stacks (+0.4 at 10). - Skill 1 — So-Called Teamwork: Detona spits contaminated oil in a fan: 60–160 (+7% Total HP) Physical Damage — then Barats ignites it with a firecracker for 120–320 (+200% Total Physical Attack). Two hits, two stacks, and the fan widens as Big Guy stacks rise. Cooldown 7.0→5.0s, mana 25–50, 50% spell-vamp ratio. Clear, poke and stack engine in one burp of fire. - Skill 2 — Missile "Expert": Two missiles at the target location: 100–175 (+75% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage and a 40% slow for 1s — then the exhaust fumes deal another 100–175 (+75% Total Physical Attack) in a rectangle and push every enemy caught toward Barats (a displacement: it interrupts dashes). Cooldown 11.0→8.0s, mana 70–100. Since the rework the pull is guaranteed — it drags a safe angle into a wall angle. - Ultimate — Detona's Welcome: Hold to charge (full charge ~1s; distance scales with charge time, overchargeable ~2⅓s more). Detona charges and devours the first enemy hit: 120–200 (+70% Total Physical Attack) (+1.2% Total HP) damage, Suppression for 1.2s in the mouth, then the spit. If the victim slams into a wall or another enemy hero, the impact explodes for 180–300 (+105% Total Physical Attack) (+1.8% Total HP) and stuns the victim and nearby enemies for 1s. Barats is control-immune for the whole cast; cancelling refunds 60% of the cooldown. Cooldown 60/55/50s. Respawning grants 4/7/10 Big Guy stacks by ult rank, and a landed swallow tops the stack bar off (MLBBHub).
Skill priority, my way: ultimate at 4/8/12, So-Called Teamwork first (clear and stack engine; CD falls to 5.0s), Missile "Expert" second.
Combos
- "The Wall Service" (the signature): arrive at 10 stacks → Missile "Expert" to pull the target against a wall line → point-blank Detona's Welcome → spit them into the wall → Trample and So-Called Teamwork on the stunned body. The ultimate wants a landing point — river walls, pit edges, base gates — not a highlight (MLBBHub).
- "The Second Beat": when a setter (Atlas, Tigreal, Khufra) opens, hold the swallow. Let their control force the Flicker or Purify first, then devour the target whose escape is spent (MLBBHub). And if your passive drops mid-fight, remember the ult doubles as a stack reset — a close-range guaranteed swallow rebuilds Big Guy instantly (MLBBHub's key tip).
Rotation and map control
Jungle is the primary home in the current guides; EXP is the co-equal desk listing (MLBBHub's clear guide is jungle; MLBBDex lists EXP · Jungle; roam is an emergency frontline job). The clear has one rule: almost no dead walking. Open with So-Called Teamwork across the whole camp, move camp to camp refreshing stacks; if the crab path risks the passive timer, skip it and take the second buff first (MLBBHub: "a clean level-four Barats with stacks is worth more than a crab that costs the next fight").
The first Turtle is the checkpoint. Arrive stacked and you body-block the river entrance and hold the wall-spit over the pit; arrive at zero and you're a slow frontliner asking your team to cover for you (MLBBHub). Ganks follow the same discipline: clear *toward* the pressured lane, pull with Missile "Expert", ult only when a wall or allied CC turns the grab into a kill — never cross the map for a low-percentage bite.
The mid game runs on the War Axe + Thunder Belt window, ~7–9 minutes (MLBBHub): stand in objective mouths, keep War Axe stacked, squeeze. And respect the shape both desks print — he peaks before minute 10 and dips after 16. Play him like a deadline: stack, eat, take the objective, end it early.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The current core (MLBBHub's guide): War Axe → Thunder Belt → Brute Force Breastplate. War Axe is the honesty item — his kit keeps its stacks alive by doing what Big Guy demands (constant contact), so carries can't ignore him. Thunder Belt's post-skill true damage scales off the hybrid defense he's stacking anyway, and Brute Force feeds itself while he trades. Guardian Helmet is the map-tempo buy when recalls cost stack uptime (MLBBHub). Flex by trigger (MLBBHub): Dominance Ice vs sustain carries, shields and clustered healers; Athena's Shield vs one-shot magic; Radiant Armor vs repeated magic ticks; Antique Cuirass vs physical skill burst; Blade Armor vs crit marksmen; Immortality when you're the only hero allowed to facecheck. The old-school note: the pure-tank spine (Guardian Helmet, Blade Armor, Radiant Armor first) is the older default — those items live in the flex list — but Hub's current guide is blunt that a defense-only Barats gets walked around. Boots: Warrior Boots vs physical/basic lanes, Tough Boots vs slows, magic poke and control chains (MLBBHub); Rapid Boots only in roam pressure plans. Emblem: Basic Common — Thrill / Seasoned Hunter / War Cry (MLBBHub) — War Cry procs off the skill-hit rhythm his whole kit runs on. Battle spell: Ice Retribution in jungle (MLBBHub: the movement steal keeps him attached after the Missile "Expert" pull). Flicker is the off-role pick — roam or emergency EXP — for re-angling the charge and the spit (MLBBHub).
How to counter him
Two live desks agree on the headline name: X.Borg — MLBBHub's measured #1 at +5.4 percentage points (counter data updated 19 Oct 2026), and MLBBDex says he "counters it very clearly." MLBBHub's measured list continues Yve +4.3pp and Gord +3.6pp (poke that wears him down before he engages), then Alice, Valir, Alpha, Balmond. MLCounter's matchup table (older dataset — direction only) prices the melters: Barats wins 41% vs Karrie (397 games — %HP true damage is the stat-profile answer), 42% vs X.Borg (232), 43% vs Esmeralda (234), 45% vs Valir (367 — the knockback refuses him entry), 46% vs Pharsa (267). - Draft two melters, or don't bother. MLBBHub's disqualifier list: Karrie, Claude, Lunox, Alpha, X.Borg. One can be outplayed with a clean swallow; two usually means the pick was wrong. Purify-heavy drafts and CC-immunity windows blunt him the same way (MLBBHub). - Items: %HP damage first — Demon Hunter Sword, Wishing Lantern (MLCounter) — then anti-heal (Sea Halberd, Glowing Wand, Dominance Ice), penetration (Malefic Roar, Divine Glaive) and slows for a body that must walk everywhere (MLCounter). - Play patterns: attack him at zero stacks (MLCounter) — no size, no Trample, no Resilience tax. Kite him: outside the ult charge he has no dash at all. Don't clump for the oil fan, and drag the game late — patience is a counter pick. Who he counters is the mirror image: heroes who must come to him and stay close. MLBBHub's measured best matchups are Silvanna, Alucard and Argus; MLCounter adds Luo Yi 59% (133 games), Zhask 58% (232), Natalia 57% (244), Badang 55% (422). Divers get swallowed mid-dive; immobile mages get walked at, pulled, and introduced to a wall.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "The Empty Stomach": Engaging at zero stacks. No size, no defense, no Trample, no Resilience — a tank jungler reduced to a slow melee creep (MLBBHub's first-named mistake). Graze a camp or a wave on the way in; the passive is the hero.
- "The Telegraph": Charging Detona's Welcome from maximum range. The long wind-up is a written invitation to sidestep — MLBBHub: long channels are easy to read unless the target is trapped, bush-checked or already controlled. Point-blank, after the pull, is far more reliable.
- "The Open-Field Spit": Swallowing someone with no wall and no second hero behind them. No collision, no explosion, no stun — a 50-second suppression spent moving a carry four metres (MLBBHub). No angle, no ult.
- "The Wrong Lunch": Eating the first body in range — usually the enemy tank, who wanted to be inside your team anyway. MLBBHub's rule: eat the damage source (Beatrix, Claude, Xavier, Lunox). The one exception: the tank *as* the projectile into his own carry line.
- "The Melter Draft": Locking him into Karrie plus Claude, or Lunox plus X.Borg, because the last game felt great. MLBBHub calls it draft ego: melters punish exactly his HP-and-defense profile. One is a matchup. Two is a donation.
FAQ
- Can Purify cleanse Detona's Welcome? No — the devour is Suppression, and Fandom's skill terms are blunt: suppression cannot be removed. Purify must be spent — or baited out by Missile "Expert" and allied CC — *before* the charge connects (MLBBHub).
- Why does he keep growing — and shrinking? Big Guy stacks. Skill hits build them (10 max: size, hybrid defense, Resilience, Trample at full); 12 seconds without a skill hit starts the decay (Fandom). A shrinking Barats is a lost fight walking.
- Jungle, EXP or roam? Both main roles, per the live desks (MLBBHub's clear guide is jungle; MLBBDex files EXP · Jungle at A tier). Roam is an emergency frontline with Flicker (MLBBHub) — playable, not the pick.
- What did Patch 2.2.16 change for Barats? Nothing in ranked — verified-list absence plus blooing's roundup read end to end (Brawl toned-down column only). The Advanced Server items (2.2.22a buff; 2.2.26 experiments reverted in 2.2.28) are test-server only — [UNCONFIRMED] for live.
- What actually kills him? %HP damage (Karrie, Demon Hunter Sword, Wishing Lantern), anti-heal, knockback and poke that never let him arrive (Valir, Yve, Gord) — and the clock: fight him at zero stacks, or after minute 16.
Final verdict
Barats in Season 42 is an A-tier deadline: 51.7–51.8% win rates on both live desks, a 4% ban rate, and a kit strongest exactly when most tanks are still warming up — the first ten minutes, full-size, standing in the objective mouth with a wall at his back. His is the only suppression in the game delivered by appetite, and a good Barats game feels unfair the way checkmate does: the carry saw the wall, saw the dinosaur, and got eaten anyway. His failures are just as legible — melters, Purify drafts, long games, empty stomachs.
Play him if: the enemy relies on one carry behind a thin front line, your team brings a setter or a burst mid to cash the swallow, and you'll fight on his clock — stacked, early, near walls.
Skip him if: the enemy shows two or more of Karrie, Claude, Lunox, Alpha or X.Borg, stacks Purify and CC-immunity, or your draft wants to scale into a 25-minute game. Take Gloo and attach yourself to the problem instead. Barats doesn't scale. He *serves dinner early*.
