Aulus MLBB Guide: The Window Is the Weapon (Season 42)
A 54.7% win rate and a 44.5% ban rate on a lion who buffs himself mid-fight — then a nerf a month later. Aulus, honestly: the enhanced-basic window, the two buffs, and the take-backs.
Why he's feared (and loved)
Second Turtle, and I do the thing losing Aulus players never do: I arrive early and clip the river crab with The Power of Axe. The fan lands, my basics come out enhanced — longer reach, faster swings, every hit slowing and paying HP back — and when the enemy jungler steps up, I press Aulus, Charge!, shrug off his slow, and take the fight inside Cleaving Axe's spin cycle. He isn't losing a duel. He's standing in a woodchipper that heals itself.
That is Aulus, the Warrior of Ferocity — except "Aulus" is a job title now. Fandom's story: the original Aulus, a Leonin hero, saved a cub from demons; years later the grown cub caught his thrown War Axe mid-battle and took the name as his own. Feared, because since the 2.1.67 revamp he weaves skills into enhanced basic attacks and gets *stronger* the longer you let him swing. Loved, because the kit finally has a chase pattern: a stunning fan, a free recast dash, control immunity on a timer. The catch is the window: his enhanced basics live for seconds, not minutes. Enter cold, and he's a cub with an axe he can barely lift.
Season 42 viability: the honest read
Patch paperwork first, and his is thick. The current kit is the Patch 2.1.67 revamp — the old Aulus (Undying Fury, forged axe parts, lava trail) is retired; Patch 2.1.90 gave his enhanced hits their slow (MLBBHub). Then Patch 2.2.16 (16 Sep 2026) buffed him, per Fandom's official patch notes, read directly (MLBBHub's Season 42 notes agree): base Attack Speed 0.88 → 1.0; skill damage now grants 2s of Enhanced Basic Attacks (up to 4s) whose hits heal 30 (+15% Total Physical Attack) and slow; Skill 2's first cast lost its Hybrid Lifesteal but now stuns 0.3s, its recast works even if the first cast misses, and its cooldown rose 7s → 10–8s; the ult's rank-1 base damage was trimmed inside the same buff (strikes 150–270 → 110–270, final slash 450–810 → 330–810). Then Patch 2.2.16a (14 Oct 2026) took part of it back: Kazuki Official's walkthrough of the official note and MLBBHub's summary both confirm a nerf across his damage, sustain and cooldowns — but the exact figures rest on that one video walkthrough, so any 2.2.16a number quoted elsewhere is [UNCONFIRMED]. Staleness flag: the hero page still prints pre-2.2.16 numbers — patch notes govern, flagged per skill below.
The trackers, dated (community snapshots, not Moonton data): - MLBBHub statistics (all ranks, last 7 days; checked 21 Oct 2026): S tier — 54.7% win rate, 0.93% pick, 44.5% ban — and a −3.6% win-rate trend, the biggest drop on the board since 2.2.16a landed. - MLBBDex (tier list updated 19 Oct 2026, patch 2.2.16): S+ tier as Jungle · EXP — 53.6% win rate, 0.9% pick, 43.9% ban. - MLBB.io (October 2026 insights): "Strong & Spammed" — ~54% EXP win rate; its 64% ban figure runs far hotter than the desks' ~44% (a high-rank snapshot, not the ladder average). - MLCounter.com (page updated 2 Sep 2026): 49.6% win rate — an older, colder dataset; noted, not averaged in; its matchups below are direction only.
The chorus: 53.6–54.7% win rate on the live desks, S-tier paperwork everywhere — with the slide already visible in Hub's trend line. (MLBBGuides' older snapshot: 50.3%, B tier — the desks' windows straddle two patches.) Sentiment: no fresh r/MobileLegendsGame Aulus threads surfaced — tracker/creator material only; MLBBHub's thesis: "Aulus is a commit check."
My tier verdict: A+. The S paperwork is real, but it's pre-nerf momentum: the −3.6% slide, plus draft answers as clean as Valir and Phoveus, cost him the plus-plus.
The full kit: what every button does
All mechanics from the MLBB Fandom hero page, checked 21 October 2026. Base HP 2500→5440, Physical Attack 90→258, Movement Speed 250, range 1.9, no mana bar. Difficulty: Easy (MLBBHub). - Passive — Fighting Spirit: After dealing damage, Aulus adds a stack of Fighting Spirit per second for 4 seconds (up to 6 stacks); each grants 7.5 (+0.5 × Hero Level)% Attack Speed. At max stacks his basic is enhanced, range 2.4: the swing slams the axe down for (+75% Total Physical Attack) + (4 (+0.4 × Hero Level)% of the target's Max HP) Physical Damage in a line. Since 2.2.16, skill damage also opens a 2s enhanced window (up to 4s) — no stacks needed — and in the window his hits slow and heal 30 (+15% Total Physical Attack) per hit (Fandom patch notes). The stack pool and timer are shared with War Axe and Brute Force Breastplate (Fandom): his two core items run on his passive's clock. - Skill 1 — Aulus, Charge!: Starts accumulating Fighting Spirit, removes all slows, gains 30–50% extra Movement Speed for 5s. No high-level control effect within 2 seconds and he enters the Enraged state: Control Immunity (Fandom). Cooldown 14.0→12.0s. Not a dash — a promise: two seconds for the enemy to land real CC, or he becomes unstoppable. - Skill 2 — The Power of Axe: A fan-shaped swing for 240–440 (+100% Total Physical Attack) Physical Damage, a 30% slow for 2s — and, since 2.2.16, a 0.3s stun. Recast: a dash forward into a ground smash for another 240–440 (+100% Total Physical Attack) — since 2.2.16 it's available even if the first cast hits nothing (Fandom patch notes). Cooldown 10→8s per the patch notes; the hero page still prints a flat 5.0s — patch governs. - Ultimate — Cleaving Axe: Repeated swings at nearby enemies: 110–270 (+60% Total Physical Attack) per strike (2.2.16 trimmed the rank-1 base from 150; the hero page still prints it), and after 4 strikes a brief charge into a wider final slash for 330–810 (+180% Total Physical Attack) (rank-1 trimmed from 450). Throughout: 20–40% Damage Reduction and a short Movement Speed burst per slash; only the last strike has Control Immunity (Fandom). Cooldown 50/45/40s.
Skill priority, my way: The Power of Axe first — take it at level 1 (MLBBHub's lane opener) and max it: opener, stun and dash in one button. Cleaving Axe at 4/8/12. Aulus, Charge! second — its speed bonus climbs to 50%.
Combos
- "The Window Opener" (the signature): clip *anything* — crab, wave, frontliner — with The Power of Axe so the window is already open → enhanced basics into the real target → Aulus, Charge! when their first control comes out (2 clean seconds = control-immune) → Cleaving Axe only once contact is won (MLBBHub). The ult is the close-out, never the invitation.
- "The Shoulder Entry": enter from the fight's shoulder, not the front door (MLBBHub). First cast of The Power of Axe on the *easiest* body to touch — the stun clears the path — then spend the recast dash on the carry behind them. The first hit is a key, not the play — and since 2.2.16 a missed fan no longer locks the dash away.
- "The Retribution Lock" (jungle): pre-open the window on a camp, then Retribution's slow pins the priority target inside Cleaving Axe's spin cycle (MLBBHub).
Rotation and map control
Jungle is the default; EXP is the playable second desk (MLBBHub; MLBBDex: Jungle · EXP). Jungle smooths the clear, speeds up War Axe, and lets Retribution decide Turtle fights. EXP works only into lanes that trade honestly — repeated displacement, burst poke or permanent kite breaks his map (MLBBHub). The first four minutes are discipline: open with The Power of Axe, claim the wave or camp without donating HP, and enter the river with the window already open — tag the crab or the last minion as you arrive, because a trade that starts from plain swings is the Aulus that loses (MLBBHub).
The mid game runs on one checkpoint: War Axe + Brute Force Breastplate, around minutes 7–9 (MLBBHub). Before them, every forward step is borrowed; after them he holds contact through the first reset and the duel becomes a clock they have to beat. From there: fight in corridors and chokepoints, enter second — roam or mid forces the first cooldowns, you arrive on a damaged map (MLBBHub). Late, his job is target selection: the best target who can't reset his contact — often not the marksman, but whoever already spent the peel.
Best build, emblem, and battle spell (Season 42)
The locked core (MLBBHub): role boots → War Axe → Brute Force Breastplate. War Axe rewards his exact fight shape — contact, stacking, swinging — and Brute Force fixes problem two: staying attached, with bulk, speed and control-duration reduction at full stacks. Both share his passive's stack clock (Fandom), and MLBBGuides' jungle build agrees. Spike: War Axe + Brute Force, ~7–9 minutes (MLBBHub). Flex by trigger (MLBBHub): Rose Gold Meteor (Hub's FAQ core three) — shielded chase into mixed damage; Queen's Wings vs real burst; Malefic Roar into armour stackers; Thunder Belt for long, scrappy fights; Sea Halberd vs shields and regen; Immortality when one Lord fight decides it. Boots: Tough Boots default in lane (he lives or dies on whether the first chain sticks); Warrior Boots only into near-all-physical drafts (MLBBHub); Ice Retribution boots in jungle. Emblem: Fighter — Firmness / Seasoned Hunter / War Cry (MLBBHub). Battle spell: Retribution in jungle (MLBBHub — near-locked). In EXP, Flicker is Hub's pick — the punish after they burn the stop button, or the escape after you force too much; Vengeance is the creator school for extended trades. Decide before the loading screen ends.
How to counter him
MLBBHub's measured podium: Alice, Zhuxin and Floryn hold the biggest measured edges over him in ranked play. The draft answers sit right behind them — Valir, Jawhead, Phoveus (MLBBHub) — and MLCounter's table (older dataset, direction only) prices the same names: 44% vs Jawhead (335 games), 47% vs Valir (865), 49% vs Phoveus (234), 46% vs Baxia (524). - Reset his contact. Valir's knockback turns every forward step into a recoil; Phoveus cashes Aulus's own dashes and speed into Punishing strike procs; Jawhead throws him into bad ground (MLBBHub). Displacement is the language he can't argue with. - Layer two control windows, not one. Enraged answers the first chain after 2 clean seconds; a second hard-control window still stops him (MLBBHub). Slows are useless — Charge! strips them on cast. - Items: Blade Armor punishes the mindless basic-attack plan; Dominance Ice cuts the attack speed and sustain his window runs on (MLBBHub; MLCounter agrees). Winter Crown, Wind of Nature and Immortality all punish an early Cleaving Axe — force the button, survive it, re-engage (MLBBHub). - Play patterns: poke him from range and never let him open the window for free (MLCounter); gank him early, before War Axe lands; fight him in the open, away from chokepoints where the ult covers every exit. Who he counters is the mirror image: teams that want to hold ground — MLBBHub's pick conditions (front-to-back, one peel layer, carries who stand still to hit). MLCounter: Yve 58% (447 games), Esmeralda 56%, Yu Zhong 54%, Barats 53% — frontlines and zone mages he walks into and out-swings.
Mistakes everyone makes
- "Charge! on Sight": Pressing Aulus, Charge! from max range the moment you see someone. You've announced the all-in and given them two seconds to aim the exact control that stops it (MLBBHub). Start closer, from a side angle, or after the first peel tool is spent.
- "The Free Recast": Taking the Skill 2 dash just because it lights up. Since 2.2.16 it no longer needs the fan to land, so it's always lit — and always available to be spent badly, into their tank line or under their tower (MLBBHub). Greedy recasts lose more fights than missed ones.
- "Ult as the Opener": Casting Cleaving Axe before contact is established (MLBBHub). Mobile heroes leave, stasis and revive items eat the window, and the fight resets around your longest commitment. Enter first. Trap second. Ult third.
- "The Answer Blindness": Blind-picking him into Valir or Phoveus and calling it a skill matchup (MLBBHub). It isn't one — some drafts are the counter screen wearing a hero select. Pick something else.
- "The Wrong Side of the Map": Vacuuming side gold while the Turtle clock decides the river (MLBBHub). He scales through completed fights, not just camps — the revamp lets him matter early. Be there.
FAQ
- What did Patch 2.2.16 actually change for Aulus? A buff with a nerf folded in (Fandom patch notes): base Attack Speed 0.88 → 1.0; skill damage opens a 2s enhanced-basic window whose hits heal 30 (+15% Total PA) and slow; Skill 2's first cast stuns 0.3s, its recast no longer needs a hit, its cooldown rose to 10–8s; the ult's rank-1 base was trimmed.
- And 2.2.16a? A partial take-back of that buff — damage, sustain and cooldowns, per Kazuki Official's walkthrough of the official note, with MLBBHub's summary agreeing. The exact figures are single-source — [UNCONFIRMED] until a text source prints them.
- Where did Undying Fury and the lava trail go? Retired in the Patch 2.1.67 revamp, which replaced the whole kit — Cleaving Axe is the current ultimate, no axe parts left to forge. Any guide teaching Blade/Hammer/Handle crafts is two kits out of date.
- Jungle or EXP lane? Jungle by default (MLBBHub): Retribution smooths the clear and the Turtle fight. EXP only into lanes that trade honestly — no displacing, bursting or permanent kiting.
- Why do War Axe and Brute Force feel mandatory? They share his passive's stack pool and duration (Fandom) — items and Fighting Spirit run on one clock, so build and kit ramp together.
Final verdict
Aulus in Season 42 is a buffed, revamped commit check: S-tier paperwork on both live desks (53.6–54.7%, ~44% bans) a week after a nerf knocked 3.6 points off his trend line. The 2.2.16 version is the best he has ever been — a fighter who opens his own enhanced window with skill damage, heals inside it, stuns on entry and dashes whether or not the first swing connected. He is also honest about his price: show him Valir, Phoveus, Jawhead or two layers of hard control, and the woodchipper becomes a cat toy.
Play him if: the enemy draft wants to hold ground — front-to-back, one peel layer, carries who stand still to hit — your team can crack the formation first, and you'll play him as the second wave with the window pre-opened.
Skip him if: Valir, Phoveus or Jawhead are showing, the enemy layers two hard-control windows, or your team needs its fighter to create the first engage from zero. Take Silvanna and bring a cage instead. Aulus doesn't start fights from nothing. He *finishes arguments*.
