ACECRAFT Is the Best-Looking Bullet-Hell on Mobile, and It's Not Close
The prettiest bullet-hell on mobile — hand-drawn 1930s cartoon chaos where you eat pink bullets and throw them back. Just watch your wallet.
I have a rule: I don't trust mobile games that lead with their graphics. Nine times out of ten, "stunning visuals" is doing CPR on gameplay that flatlined in testing.
ACECRAFT broke my rule in about forty seconds.
A cartoon that shoots back
The pitch is simple: a vertical shoot 'em up drawn like a 1930s cartoon. Not "cartoon-inspired." Not a filter. Hand-drawn, rubber-hose, bouncy-frame animation — the kind of thing where a boss doesn't just attack you, it *performs* at you. The first boss I fought had more personality in its entrance than most game protagonists get in forty hours.
You fly as one of eight Ace Pilots through Cloudia, a floating world under siege by the Nightmare Legion, and everything — the planes, the bullets, the explosions — looks like it was inked by someone who grew up on Betty Boop and decided to weaponize nostalgia.
Players keep saying the same thing: it's Cuphead on your phone. And yeah — except it's not a homage act. It's doing its own thing.
The pink bullets changed everything
Here's the mechanic that elevates it past "pretty shooter": you don't just dodge bullets. The pink ones? You absorb them.
Dodge the storm, eat the pink projectiles, and they charge your counterattack — so you're literally turning the boss's offense into your own bullet storm. The first time I threaded through a barrage I had no business surviving and fired it all back, I understood why the reviews keep calling this the game's smartest idea. Bullet-hell has one golden rule — don't touch the bullets — and ACECRAFT looked at it and said "what if touching them was the point."
Stack roguelike skills on top — random upgrades every run, synergies that get increasingly unhinged — and no two flights play the same.
Bring a friend or don't bother telling me about it
Solo is fine. Co-op is the game. Two pilots, real-time strategy mid-bullet-storm, reviving each other while the sky tries to kill you both — this is the version I'll remember. The game calls itself "the first 2P co-op shoot 'em up," and honestly the genre was missing it.
Now the part where I keep it honest
Because you know I will: this game is beautiful and it is *greedy*. The gacha is aggressive. The menus are a slot machine of claim buttons. Players love the art and the core shooting — gorgeous animation, solid responsive bullet-hell, fair and clear bullets — and then in the same breath warn you about the monetization. One review I saw basically said: amazing game, minus two stars for greed. That's the consensus in one sentence.
You can play the whole thing free. Just know the game will never stop suggesting you shouldn't.
Should you play it?
If you care about how games look — really look, frame by frame — yes, a hundred times yes. This is the rare mobile game where the art isn't marketing; it's the whole point, and the shooting underneath is genuinely good. We put it on the shelf because a game this hand-crafted deserves to be found.
Just guard your wallet. The Nightmare Legion isn't the only thing in Cloudia trying to take your money.
