Melissa MLBB Guide: Needle Links, Ult & Build (Season 42)
Melissa got nerfed in Season 42, but the doll still runs the gold lane. The marksman guide to needle links, dome timing, and the on-hit build.
The turret is dying, my health bar is lying, and their jungler is already inside my personal space bubble like he pays rent there. I throw Muddles into the choke, pop Go Away!, and watch him bounce off my little cursed dome for the third time. Third. Time. Mate, take the hint. Inside the bubble I am untouchable, outside it I am soup — and right now, I am very, very untouchable.
That is Melissa. One second you are a fragile gold laner holding a doll. The next, the whole enemy team is playing pinball around your sewing project.
Welcome in. I main marksmen, I have strong opinions, and I am going to tell you honestly whether our needle gremlin is worth your ranked stars in Season 42.
Why She's Feared (and Loved)
Melissa, the Cursed Needle, is a Marksman built for the Gold Lane, and she does not shoot people like a normal person. Normal marksmen hit you. Melissa hits a doll, Muddles, and you suffer anyway. It is voodoo with a cooldown bar and I respect it enormously.
Her identity is three things stitched together. First, the doll: Muddles sits on the ground as a second target you attack, and damage travels through its link to every tethered enemy. Second, the needle link: group the enemy, link the group, then shred the group with single-target autos that suddenly behave like area damage. Third, zone control: her ultimate, Go Away!, draws a circle and rudely informs every diver, assassin and overexcited fighter that the circle is not for them.
That is why she is feared. She punishes teams that clump, teams that dive without thinking, and anyone running summoned units — her passive literally pays her extra for deleting your pets. And she is loved because no other marksman feels like this. You are not just kiting. You are running a tiny haunted tailor shop in the middle of a team fight, and business is booming.
Season 42 Viability: The Honest Read
Honest first, hype second: she got nerfed, and the numbers are not pretty. These are third-party tracker snapshots, not official Moonton figures, and the trackers do not agree with each other — which tells you a lot by itself.
- MLBBHub, updated 22 September 2026, patch 2.2.16A ranked: Tier C, 48.63% win rate, 0.34% pick rate, 1.15% ban rate.
- DawnMeta, patch v2.2.16a, checked 20 October 2026: B Tier, 48.4% win rate, 0.4% pick rate, 1.0% ban rate.
- MLBB-Stats, Mythic+ over the last 7 days, checked 20 October 2026: 49.2% win rate, 0.3% pick rate, 0.8% ban rate.
- GamsGo's Season 42 tier list, 13 October 2026: Melissa in C tier, the weak band, for Gold Lane.
- DraftMeta, generated 8 August 2026 — before Season 42, so treat it as stale: 55.46% win rate across all ranks, 1.23% pick, 4.6% ban. Lovely number. Old number. Do not marry it.
See the spread? One dusty snapshot says she is a monster. Every fresher Mythic snapshot parks her just under 50% and barely picked. My read: B-to-C tier, situational, lethal in the right draft and miserable in the wrong one.
On the patch itself: GamsGo (13 October 2026) and MLBBHub both list Melissa among the 2.2.16 nerfs — lower Attack Speed bonus and duration on Skill 1, and Muddles transferring less damage. The exact before-and-after numbers for that nerf are UNCONFIRMED, because neither source publishes them and I could not verify them against official patch notes. Claims of a full Season 42 rework are also UNCONFIRMED. What is documented, on the Fandom patch history, is the earlier 2.1.67 rework: Skill 2 can be cast during Skill 1, the old Skill 1 cooldown-refund loop was removed, and the ultimate gained a shield instead of its old passive defence bonus.
Player mood matches the data. Paraphrasing recent r/MobileLegendsGame threads: some players still argue she is oppressive, especially into Lesley, because she can wait out camouflage and punish her with the link; others call her one of the more balanced marksmen, strong but pickable around; and some Melissa players admit they struggle to turn her doll poke into real team impact. A YouTube video from creator Sensasi on 18 September 2026 framed Season 42 as Melissa mains mourning her getting weaker. Split lobby, basically — haters still scared, mains feeling the nerf.
The Full Kit: What Every Button Does
She runs on mana — 500 base mana on the Fandom wiki — so yes, you can absolutely embarrass yourself by running dry. Ask me how I know.
- Passive — Doll Buster: Melissa deals 125% damage to minions, creeps and summoned units. That is the whole passive, and it is nastier than it sounds. Against Zhask's spawn, Popol's Kupa or any summoned nuisance, you are not a laner, you are pest control. Muddles' attacks count as Melissa's basic attacks, apply on-hit effects and can crit.
- Skill 1 — Falling!: A short blink that also drags Muddles with her, plus an Attack Speed bonus the Fandom main page lists as 50–75% for 3 seconds, for 30–55 mana. Practical note: the Fandom patch history records the 2.1.67 rework cutting its cooldown to 5–3.5 seconds and removing the old effect that refunded 0.5 seconds whenever you damaged enemies through Muddles. If an ancient guide tells you to farm cooldown refunds off the doll, bin it.
- Skill 2 — Eyes on You!: She throws Muddles out. On first hit it deals physical damage — the Fandom main page lists 250–400 (+80% Total Physical Attack), while the 2.1.67 patch history records that being lowered, so the exact current scaling is UNCONFIRMED — then links nearby enemy heroes and summoned units for up to 6 seconds. Linked enemies are slowed by 60%, decaying over 1.5 seconds, take 60% damage transfer through the link, and can escape by walking out of range. Muddles also returns early if she strays too far.
- Ultimate — Go Away!: Cuddles builds the dome. For 4 seconds the field knocks back enemies who try to enter, dealing magic damage on the initial hit — Fandom lists 500–900 (+100% Total Magic Power), then 50–90 per tick with a 60% slow — and it interrupts movement skills unless the enemy is control-immune. The field moves with her once when she reaches its edge. Per the patch history, casting it now also grants a shield of 300–700 (+200% Extra Physical Attack). Cooldown and mana figures conflict between the Fandom main page and the rework notes, so those exact values are UNCONFIRMED here.
Skill priority, no debate: take Skill 2 at level 1, max Skill 2 first, ultimate whenever it is offered, Skill 1 second.
Combos
- The bread and butter: Skill 2 into a grouped wave or choke, then basic-attack Muddles, not the heroes. The link does the networking. You just hold the needle.
- The rework combo: Skill 1 forward and cast Skill 2 mid-blink. Since 2.1.67 they chain in one motion, so you land in range with Muddles already placed instead of arriving, waving, and dying politely.
- The doll poke pattern: Throw Muddles at the enemy laner as the wave meets, take your few free linked autos while the 60% slow decays, then walk out before the link snaps. Rinse. It is boring. It also wins lanes.
- The ult play: Go Away! early, not late. Pop it as the dive starts so the knockback and shield eat the engage. If the assassin is already hugging you, the field will not magically evict them.
- The turret siege: Link the defenders through Muddles from behind your wave, chip them through the doll, and let them choose between losing health or losing the turret. Chef's kiss.
Rotation and Map Control
Gold lane gospel, Melissa edition. Your first job is embarrassingly simple: farm. Last-hit, stack gold, bully with Muddles when the enemy laner steps up, and do not donate your life for a crab and a dream.
Do not rotate just because mid is having a party. Rotate when your wave is pushed, your turret is safe, and there is an actual objective — Turtle fight, a free turret plate, a jungler showing on your side of the map. Otherwise you are just a slow marksman going for a scenic walk while your lane bleeds gold.
Mid game, you are a moving no-entry sign. Set up Muddles in river chokes and jungle mouths before objectives, not after the fight starts. Your team fights around your doll and your dome, or you do not fight at all. Late game, never face-check, never split alone without ultimate and a dash plan, and stay one step behind your front line — close enough for Muddles to reach the clump, far enough that the clump cannot reach you.
Best Build, Emblem and Battle Spell (Season 42)
The community consensus across MLBBHub, DawnMeta and MLBB-Stats top loadouts is an on-hit build, not a crit lottery ticket. Written as lists, because tables are where joy goes to die:
- Boots: - Swift Boots — the locked default everywhere; her whole kit scales with attack speed. - Tough Boots — my flex only into heavy magic burst and crowd control, when surviving the first second matters more than shredding. - Locked core: - Corrosion Scythe — on-hit damage plus stacking slows that keep enemies inside Muddles' link. Non-negotiable. - Golden Staff — every third attack multi-triggers your on-hit effects through the link. This is the engine. - Demon Hunter Sword — percentage-of-current-HP damage for tanky front lines standing in your tether. - Flex slots: - Haas's Claws and Berserker's Fury — the crit-and-lifesteal route DawnMeta and MLBBHub's curated build run when you want harder individual hits. - Malefic Gun — extra range and penetration when you must hit safely from the back. - Wind of Nature — against physical dive: Lancelot, Fanny, Saber, Hayabusa. Your second life when Go Away! is down. - Sea Halberd — against healing and shielding comps such as Estes, Esmeralda and Yu Zhong; the link spreads the anti-heal for you. - Rose Gold Meteor or Immortality — late insurance against magic burst or one fatal pick. - Emblem: Marksman Emblem. - Talent 1: Swift (Bargain Hunter appears in the MLBB-Stats top loadouts instead — both are defensible, Swift is the simpler default). - Talent 2: Bargain Hunter, to reach the two-item spike sooner. - Core talent: Weakness Finder — every aggregator agrees; the extra slow stacks with Corrosion Scythe and keeps victims linked. - Battle spell: Inspire, the spell on DawnMeta's page, MLBBHub's curated build and every MLBB-Stats top loadout. Take Flicker instead when Franco or hard engage makes positioning, not damage, your problem — MLBBHub's own guide text argues exactly that.
How to Counter Her
Want to ruin a Melissa's evening? It is grimly easy if you draft and play properly.
- Heroes who beat her: Long-range poke that never enters the dome — Lesley, Xavier, Pharsa and Granger all hit her from outside Go Away!'s range, per MLBBHub's draft analysis. Franco is the nastiest answer: his hook passes through the field. Ling and Joy headline DawnMeta's hard-counter list for their mobility, and MLBBHub's matchup data flags Belerick, Harley and X.Borg as winning into her. Note the trackers contradict each other here too — DawnMeta lists Belerick and Harley as favourable matchups for Melissa — so trust the mechanics, not one website.
- Heroes she beats: Dive that must walk at her and summons that must exist near her. MLBBHub's data has her strong into Lolita, Joy and Leomord, and her passive makes her a natural bully into Zhask and Popol and Kupa.
- Items: Dominance Ice-style attack-speed reduction hurts her whole engine, and Blade Armour punishes a hero who attacks this often. Burst her after Go Away! ends — the dome lasts 4 seconds, not forever.
- Playbook: Never stand clumped inside the link. Walk out of Muddles' range and the link breaks — that is written into the skill. Bait the ultimate, disengage, then re-engage while it is on cooldown. And kill the positioning, not the dome: flank from two angles so one bubble cannot save her.
Mistakes Everyone Makes
- The Museum Build: Playing the pre-rework cooldown loop, autoing Muddles expecting Skill 1 refunds. That mechanic was removed in 2.1.67. It is gone. Let it go.
- The Panic Bubble: Pressing Go Away! after crowd control has already landed. The field does not cancel CC. Early bubble, living Melissa. Late bubble, grey screen.
- The Hope Throw: Launching Muddles at max range into a mobile, unslowed enemy in open ground. They walk out, your link achieves nothing, and your main skill is on cooldown.
- The Forward Blink of Doom: Using Falling! to dive into a grouped team. It is a short repositioning blink, not an engage and not an escape from five angry people.
- The Franco Blind Pick: Locking Melissa into Franco with no Flicker plan. Hook ignores your bubble. Enough said.
FAQ
- Is Melissa good in Season 42? Playable, not premium. Fresh Mythic snapshots put her at 48.4–49.2% win rate with a tiny pick rate. In the right draft she feels broken; blind-picked, she feels like homework.
- Inspire or Flicker? Inspire by default — it is the consensus spell and it supercharges the link shred. Flicker when the enemy draft is built to grab or jump you.
- Crit or on-hit build? On-hit. Corrosion Scythe, Golden Staff and Demon Hunter Sword show up across every source I checked, because Muddles spreads on-hit effects through the link.
- What skill do I max? Eyes on You! first, ultimate whenever offered, Falling! second. Take Skill 2 at level 1.
- Who counters her hardest? Franco for the hook through her field, and long-range poke that never has to enter it. Mobility assassins like Ling punish bad bubble timing.
- Is she beginner-friendly? Medium difficulty, honestly. The buttons are simple; the doll placement, link range and bubble timing are not. Give her ten normal games before ranked, please, I beg you.
Final Verdict
My honest tier take: B tier in DawnMeta's book, C tier in MLBBHub and GamsGo's, and my heart says high-B in a good draft, low-C in a bad one. Call her a specialist. If your team has a front line that clumps enemies, the enemy dives in straight lines, or someone dares to pick a summon hero into you — lock her in and sew chaos. If you need a safe, blind-pickable, climb-while-half-asleep marksman, pick someone else and keep your blood pressure.
Play her if you like control, patience and watching divers bounce off your house. She is not dead in Season 42. She is just no longer free — and honestly? The doll was always scarier when it took skill.
